As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Why is every deal we get involved in "complicated"? Other clubs, make an offer, do some haggling, bit of back & forth, some negotiating & the deal gets done or they leave it. With us it's always a long drawn out process, round & round the houses, penny pinching, scrimping, half arsed offers and eventually we get told to f*ck off, some other club swoops in and the deal gets done.
Meanwhile all the dross the fans desperately want to see the back of are sitting with their feet up at AFC with no intention of going anywhere, while the club are knee deep wasting time trying to buy players we don't get, and who we never needed in the first place
You get the feeling at modern day Arsenal that the transfer window is the most hated time of the year. I remember Wenger wanted to do away with the January one. Why not, we never acknowledged it anyway. Except once, when we bought a guy with a broken back.

I have argued this with sid and many others in the last few months, but the stench of wenger and ivan doesn't get washed away overnight, and the mess they left behind will continue to hamper the progress at the club for at least the next 2 seasons imo. Players like ozil and mikki and mustafi are on outrageous wages that those other clowns gave them, and they are gonna refuse to go even if they are getting zero game time, and we cant force them out. We cannot blame the new regime for being unable to shift them, cos even if we manage to push them out the door (unlikely it has to be said), the club will still have to pay up the remainder of their wages if they don't ask to leave.

Augie, I don't disagree with any of that, I blame the crap that we are stuck with 90% on Wenger. These guys are not very good, they are being paid way above what they are worth, so why would they leave??
Doesn't make it any less infuriating though. I reckon it will take 5 years to completely wash Wenger's stench out of the club.
If we're going to make a last minute swoop in this window for a CB. Nathan Ake is a great shout. 24 year old Dutch international, with great Premier League pedigree. At £75m better value than Maguire but I think they turned Leicester down as he is worthy of a top 6 club, not a top 6 wannabe. We could offer them Mustafi and Elneny as part exchange so they don't have to go searching for a CB at the last minute.

1000% agree with this. We've been negotiating with Tierney since transfer window opened whilst United lost a target, found another target and bought it for 75m. Like, are the people in charge of transfer downright stupid or do they do this on purpose.
I also feel like this happens because teams know we identified x and we don't have a y to go to if x does not work out so they bargain hard and as usual.. Arsenal has to do their shitty back & forth, half arse offers and etc and before you know 3 weeks has gone to convince one player to join.
In an ideal world with people that know how a club should run all our targets + Tierney should have bene completed two weeks ago and we should've spend the latter stages of a transfer window identifying and hitting on CB's. All we've done thus far is half convince Celtic and yet to meet Rugani's agent. If he doesn't work out we are fucked because there's no time to contact, land, negotiate and sign the new player.

Part of the problem with the Tierney deal, I think is down to Celtic believing they are still a bigger club than The Arsenal as they are contesting CL football, and of course their history. They've already bought his replacement at LB.

I doubt they'd ask for 75m to Leicester but 50m to a top 6 club. They priced him the same to everyone probably want him to go to the big boys rather than to a team that are a competition to Bournemouth in terms of league standings.
In terms of the two clowns that you mentioned, I know Monaco is half dumb for valuing him at 28m but in the PL, would these two even combine for 20m? If they do I am all up for that deal knocking off 20m from 75.

I appreciate that but if we went with offering 20m and they said no and we said 'fine, take the 25m, send the player down' the story would've ended there. To my knowledge, Celtic weren't looking for 30, 35m so just meet them at their price. What's that extra 2/3m we save gonna do? Got to Mustafi and El Neny's pay.

I don't think that it is a stretch to believe that part of the reason this deal hasn't been done is cos Tierney has been injured - that could mean that until he was fit enough to take a medical they didn't see the point in rushing to sort it, or it could be as simple as penny pinching and us not wanting to pay his wages for a month before he will be fit to play for us
Eight bloody years he was at the club . He always came across as a decent bloke but eight years and about 50 games tells us all we need to know about the recruitment and retention at Arsenal from 2005 onwards.
