When it comes to getting rid of the dross don't forget the Europeans window is open until the end of the month so plenty of time to offload Mustafi and Elniny if they are to go abroad.

A quick count of the old pennies shows that what we have spent so far including KT and DL would be just about balanced out if we were to sell mustafi for 20M and iwobi for 30M. That would mean the £45M is still left plus any money for Elniny and anybody else that leaves..... are we done or is there time for one last name?

That's the question I was asking too - with only two and a half hours remaining, you would have to think that any deal at this stage must be one where there had been prior conversations with a selling club.

Not gonna over-hype his return or anything, but at the same time having him back should be a good thing

SSN reporter outside everton's training ground is saying that any everton move for iwobi or Zaha is unlikely at this stage

I can't believe that we aren't prepared to flog Iwobi for hard cash to fund Zaha or do a player plus £25M offer to Palace. It's a bit like Luiz, it might not work out but it just might and it's worth rolling the dice.

SSN have Palace linked with a boy at Leipzig as a possible replacement which could be shit stirring rather than fact and they are bidding on a forward in Russia. Maybe there's nothing there but it's been such a weird window.....you can't help but wonder.

Bringing in Zaha now would be the death knoll for nelson at AFC, and might suggest a departure of auba - you wouldn't spend major money on pepe and Zaha unless both were gonna start, and that would only leave the centre forwards position and I cannot see laca and auba being happy rotating like they did last season

When one of our attacks break down in the final third and you can see that one of them is standing beside laca in the centre forwards position, then you can be sure that one is luiz

At this stage it is looking almost a certainty, but I did wonder if we could have sold iwobi and mustafi this morning, would it have led to an increased bid for the Leipzig centre back - would have been a nice conclusion to this window, but I know that I am being greedy now

Why didn't we try to sign this guy ? I don't know where he plays, and I don't know if he is any good, but the fringe benefits would have been huge

They say it's a funny old game, but something struck me today :rubchin: For years we were rightly highly critical of Wenger signing sub par players for our great club and as an extension only aiming for CL qualification as a target. Yet now I find with him gone we fans are now accepting this as our standard for success, I find it disappointing that I now see this as being acceptable

Fair point but if we are ever going to get back on the road to regaining a place in the CL (or more!) we've got to be prepared to increase the quality of the squad and if we can reach a point where there is competition for places then that can't be a bad thing. Allowing for injuries, the demands of the season and all the cup games there is a case for having those numbers upfront.

Having said that if we were really serious about progressing we would be spending that kind of money on a proper CB not a 32 year old who spat the dummy when fat fwank told him he wasn't starting for the chavs. But we didn't so are we calling it quits as it's been a successful window - from a financial perspective or are we going to do something mad at the end.
