It’s not much for the drummer to learn! They need a group of 50 somethings at the back of the stand to sing old school chants!!

Hello....you called You are right but us 50 year olds can't always be bothered to lend our voices to the strains that can occasionally be heard at the bowl. Quite frankly it's beneath me to have to start chants at my age.....what is wrong with our youth.

The drum is a completely wanky idea, typical of current day 'fans' and has just ruined my day, Wtf has happened to society. Fat fuckers wandering around the ground thinking they're celebrities because they are involved with a wanky internet channel. Even worse are the fucking idiots who fawn all over them (no rodders it doesn't mean that) encouraging them to be even bigger idiots than they already are.

Somehow the chants have basically descended into the extremely dreary 'Ar -se - nal' chant.....it's utter shit but for many of our lot at the bowl it would appear to be within the reach of their IQ to remember it. The days of the old NB going through a song for most of the players has long since gone as have most good things about the Arsenal. The day that the mickeys decided to cause mayhem at Hillsborough basically killed off football sounding the death knell for terraces as Atmosphere fuck.ed off with a last wave over her shoulder.

So I'm all for giving the sing song section a proper go but ffs have some dignity and leave the drum at home you twonk. That said you know that the fact that a drum is involved means the people behind this are all called Tarquin.

The players used to come out for the warm up 1 or 2 at a time each one received to his own song, they loved it and the Police band, big games fans being escorted around the pitch.....

I always remember Paul Mariner's reaction when he came out to the NB, he definitely loved the attention but then again he had come from Ipswich Brian Marwood was another one who arrived well into his career but he got the whole thing too - I think those guys appreciated the adulation that bit more coming from smaller clubs.

on a good day, by 2.55 your ears would be ringing from the echoes.

one of the loudest games i remember was the Norwich 4-3 game after Hillsborough. it was deafening and then we had the minutes silence and the silence spooked the pigeons on the pitch to fly off all at once. well spooky.

Great memories mate. Did you become a clockender in the all-seater days when the Clock End became the place to be?

A memory of the north bank that always sticks in my mind is the first time we played the scum at Highbury after we'd won the title at Anfield. I was there quite early but the terraces were full and as I made my way down the steps from top of the corner of the NB and West stand, Queen's ''we are the champions'' was booming out from the north bank - unaided by it being played over the tannoy I might add. Just thousands of voices singing with raw pride towards their filthy neighbours at the other end!

That song has become a bit cheesy and cliched since but at the time it was new to hear it in a football ground and it remains one of the best renditions I've heard. Wish I could hear it again. Sadly crowds are not allowed to build their own atmosphere anymore. Too many empty seats and too many deafening adverts on the screens etc.

The post Hillsborough Norwich game was a 5-0 win but you're right the 4-3 game was a cracking atmosphere and one of the games that made me love the Graham era so much. It was the game with the brawl at the end after we won it with a last minute penalty in front of the North bank

A heads up about the drum. A group of youngsters...literally 16 year olds....have started this "atmosphere" initiative and unsurprisingly, given the wanky nature of our Club's executive, they've been invited in to meet the Club and their schoolboy notions are being indulged. One of the notions is the drum and they also want.....wait for it....The Wonder of You reinstated !!! I absolutely fucking hate that song, as does everyone else who's aware of what's going on. These youngsters apparently remember it creating a great atmosphere before the CL semi against United.....wonder how that ended up ?! They'd have been about 5 years old at the time.

Anyway, some old schoolers have tried to have some input and offer advice, but have not been welcomed. These kids think they know best and I suppose are emboldened by the Club embracing and flattering them.

So the main drivers for an improved atmosphere and song repertoire at the bowl, will be a soppy bunch of schoolboys, who were barely born when we left Highbury. I'm sure our future is in safe hands.

Another nail in the coffin of our once great Club.

Remember all that only too well, turning up early to do the whole pre-match routine....that's long since died away. Happy days indeed. We used to stand in the upper middle part where the songs and crowd surges used to be, great fun and all part of falling in love with the Arsenal and Highbury. We occasionally had a wander into the Clock End just for a change of scenery now and then.

I have a lasting memory of some fu.cker setting off fireworks in the NB in November around 83/84 at half time (Uptown Girl playing) and just hearing the whizz of the bloody things before they exploded. Just hoping that they weren't coming in our direction

The other incident which sticks with me and was a one off was a match when we were winning and it was all going a bit daft in the middle and some genius of a cop - must have been a new Sgt/Insp decided to put a stop to the surges and deployed a line of cops facing up towards the crowd with the barriers to their backs Everybody and their auntie knew what was going to happen if we scored again so we pisssed off and managed to squeeze past the cops and under the barrier. 10 minutes later and we score again and sure enough it happened. As the crowd infront of us surged forward we casually stepped forward and turned to watch the mayhem behind us as everyone piled forward into the cops. Nobody seemed to get nicked but it was a bit close for comfort and of course the embarrassed line of cops were removed pronto after that - funny to watch.

That sort of top cop lack of footy knowledge meant that a Hillsborough was always a possibility at football....all you needed was a few scousers and a clueless cop. Christ those cu.nts have got a lot to answer for, they ruined football for us back then and future generations

In my opinion for atmosphere best days were even before that, do you remember the bar at the back?
So many memories, yeah it was deafening at times, as someone said above we made the atmosphere, Cup night game against Chavs at 5:00 pm it was packed with continuous singing 60,000 there, countless memories
Loads of banter, and real characters not fuckers with Lattes and iPads all been gentrified and sterilised.

you're right it was the 5-0. brain is going. i knew it was Naarwich.

No mate, i switched to The Clockend in 1991 when the club offered Standing Season Tickets for the first time - they weren't available on the NB. I was going to every home game, so i said eff it, i will switch my allegiances.

and to be honest, i loved it more down that end - it did become a few years later the place to be, it felt.

some great memories from those standing days on the Clockend - charging Liverpool through the opened gate after they robbed us with a late winner (Molby ?), celebrating Forest's win half an hour before KO in 1991 and then running out 3-1 winners over United, Seaman doing 'the twist' , waving thousands of ST wallets at some mug who just got sent off - the Bank Of Arsenal $10 notes waved at the Away fans, giving sheringham stick on a massive scale in 1992 after he said he grew up hating us etc etc

I was in there when we Sang 'we are the Champions' - to this day whenever i hear the line "no time for losers" i still shout "TOTTENHAM" as we did that day - for the first time i think ?

Jock - the middle of the North Bank was split into the " topside" up the back, and "the middle" below it. Below the "middle' was where i think the originally Gooners/ later the Herd stood if they weren't at the bar at the back. there was certainly some older, tougher lads below the Middle that us teenagers knew not to mess with.

I was Topside and the two groups used to sing at each other before kick and at half time and at RipRoar too lol. to get the atmosphere going - " we're the topside, we're the topside, Topside Highbury..." and they'd respond " we're the Middle, we're the Middle, Middle, Highbury" back and forth louder and louder as people piled in , until one group switched to one of our main songs and either the whole end would belt it out and it would be brilliant, or it would be too early and it would fall flat and the Topside and Middle would boo and hiss, and we'd go back to the back and forth, or start singing at the players.
