It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.
Chuffed to bits to get a phone call the other day to say I had got tickets to see the Undertones at a very small, intimate venue,
John Peel Centre, was built in honour of the man who gave the Undertones their break, by playing their song twice, back to back.
For what would have been his 80th birthday they are playing there
Approx 200 people will be in attendance and what’s more I can walk there
Nice One mate, I was an avid listener to The John Peel Show back in the day, you could guarantee that every show he would play at least one song/track from a totally unknown band/artist that would spark my interest, mind you that was also back in the days of vinyl 45RPM's! <sigh> and all the way through when all the indie bands & labels were emerging <sigh> and when cassettes were beginning to fade out and then of course as .CD's began to out-sell vinyl ... I can honestly say he is the only scouser I've ever liked- his utterly laconic style, but with amazing ears.
I had an old valve radio left to me by one of my Grand Father's when he passed away - we used to listen to the BBC whilst I helped in the garden as a child, and I used to do my home-work etc whilst listening to "John Peel In Concert" shows - I remember especially when what became known as "Prog Rock" was emerging in the late 60's and through the early 70's - He championed the likes of Yes and Pink Floyd.
I also recall his telling the story of the first time he ever heard "Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones - He was driving somewhere on a motorway and was playing one of numerous cassettes he had been sent by bands / companies - and when he heard it, he had to pull over he was so affected by it and cried because he thought it was that good.
Went to see The Proclaimers on Sunday night at the waterfront in Belfast, superb nite, great band!

Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye and all the Motown greats...my first live gig when I was 13yrs of age was The Four Tops with 2 other Motown acts supporting ... anyhoooo! I know what you mean.

I like a lot of music from ACD to Zappa ,from Punk to Puccini, From Roots to Rachmaninov ,From Joy Division to Spandau Ballet !
If it makes you feel good then go for it , there's nothing wrong with a lot of music and I try my hardest to not be too judgmental but most of the stuff I like is soooooooooo last century ! Haven't heard a new band that I have really gotten into this century ,perhaps its my age !
This is music,sort of,
Has anyone seen the Coventry City tribute to "Two Tone," shirt?
I think that it looks awesome,is a great tribute to the music and politics of that era,and fantastic that the proceeds from its sale go to charity.
