Re: Unai Emery
For all his faults, Mourinho is an impact manager. He hits the ground running. Even at United, widely considered a failure, in his first season he won them two trophies, including the Europa League, which got them into the Champions' League. The next season, they finished runners-up. So yes - if there is a mutual agreement to hire Mourinho in the International Break with no expectation that he will stay beyond the end of the season that is as good as we could hope for. It's the likeliest route back into the Champions' League for us.
Then, and only then, would we be in a position to compete for the calibre of manager who could really take us back to the top in the way that Klopp has done for Liverpool. Only two candidates I would consider - Allegri , and the best fit for Arsenal by a country mile - Simeone. Year after year he boasts the best defensive record in Spain, and probably in Europe (7 goals conceded from 12 games so far this year, compared to Barca and Madrid's 15 and 12 respectively, both from 11 games). All great Arsenal teams in my lifetime have built from the back.

Please come down off cloud cuckoo land for a minute will you - allegri we have a miniscule chance of getting (in other words fcuk all chance), and simeone we haven't a snowballs chance in hell of getting

Moaninho spent £390m+ when he was at manure - you still think he was a success ? He wouldnt have 10% of that budget with us, he is showing that his abilities to identify good signings has totally evaporated, and the respect he gets from players now is at rock bottom level - in other words he is the portugese wenker

Every dog has his day lads, and wenkers and moaninho's has come and gone - if you dont want to take my word for that, then take the word of all those clubs who have shown ZERO interest in appointing them when they were looking for new managers
Re: Unai Emery
Exactly this. If he was still highly regarded I don't think he'd be sitting in a TV studio at game time, he'd be on a touchline somewhere.augie wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 12:49 pmBob Bayliss wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 12:15 pmFor all his faults, Mourinho is an impact manager. If we bring this arrogant wànker in then that will be the final nail in the coffin for me I think.

Re: Unai Emery
The thought of maureen at Arsenal in any capacity makes me feel violently sick and Very VERY Angry.
He is 'Poison' - let him resurrect any hopes of managing in the prem again elsewhere, NOT at Arsenal FC.

Re: Unai Emery
Much as Emery needs to go, Mourinho would be an even bigger catastrophe..... we'd really understand the meaning of devisive/corrosive then
Re: Unai Emery
Perfectly put - I thought the Sperz fans wanting Poch out and Maureen in were a bunch of c++++ but to see some of ours wanting him to come back (presumably in a time machine that takes him back a decade).....unbelievable. We'd soon have Matic playing CDM and playing football at a snail's pace, some of the brightest youngsters criticised publically and sent out on loan to all 4 corners of the world, be picking fights with the media and the authorities every week creating conspiracy theories galore and playing a brand of football so boring, I'd consider watching Burnley every week a pleasant alternativeaugie wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 12:49 pmBob Bayliss wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 12:15 pmFor all his faults, Mourinho is an impact manager. When Wenger was appointed manager of Arsenal he was 46 years old an a revolutionary. When Mourinho effectively ended Wenger's reign in this country in 2004/05, the Portugeuse c.unt was 41 years old and a revolutionary. When Liverpool appointed Klopp he was 48 years old and a revolutionary. When City appointed Pep he was 45 years old and a revolutionary.
Anyone get the picture here? Time waits for no man, and what Mourinho was doing in a pre-Klopp/Pep era with virtually a clear run at Europe's transfer market might have suited that day and age, but about to turn 57 in the new year he is yesterday's man.....overtaken by Pep, Klopp and others emerging in a way he once did to Wenger 15 years ago
If you want a return to the dark ages and an absolute c.unt of a bloke to boot, then opt for Mourinho. You won't be disappointed

Jose Mourinho's red and white army!
even satirically it makes me queasy.

Re: Unai Emery
I don’t want mourinho, however I do think he would guide this squad to a top 4 finish! Simply because the squad us good enough and Emery is not

Mourinho talk is a complete waste of breath, the guy will not go to a club without a transfer warchest and we barely have a transfer piggybank.

Exactly this, no more and no less. You don't have to like the bloke, you can hate him with a passion. He is surly, his style of football is unattractive and he is past his best. There is no way he would or should be considered on a long-term basis. But in our current predicament, the priority is to get into the top four by the end of the season. Under Wenger that was an end in itself. Now, it has become a prerequisite to having a sniff of attracting one of the 'A'-listers who could transform the club. While our owners leave much to be desired, in fairness Wenger and Emery have had been given money to spend. After a promising start in recruiting, Dick has now spunked nearly £80million on a modern-day Perry Groves who can take the odd decent free-kick. Our top earners (Ozil, Auba) are paid very handsomely. so money is available to recruit world-class talent.
It is the absence of Champions' League football which precludes us attracting the very best managers who can recruit quality and harness it to form a winning team.
Re: Unai Emery
Keep 'em coming lads.....some comedy gold suggestions on here. So far we've got:
1. Maureen - who is going to defy logic and take his time machine back a decade to when he was top dog and crush all before him with his brand of swashbuckling football
2. 12 game Brenda - Liverpool's least successful manager in 70 years
3. Thomas Tuchel - a man who managed to win the league at PSG (after Emery had won the treble), oversaw their worst run of league results since 2012 i.e. their wealth era, and lost 1-3 at home to Ole's ManUre to get knocked out of the CL. Prior to that he'd won a single domestic cup with Dortmund. Still if we give him €135m to spend on a single player like he did with Mbappe, I'm sure he'll turn us into world beaters
Can't wait to hear about the next batch of contenders.......

How fu.cking dare you compare Pepe to PG. I've witnessed Perry skinning LBs on many an occasion yet I don't think I've seen Pepe go for the byeline since he got here. Not saying that Perry always got a great cross in but he had one of the best songs going and Pepe doesn't eben have one

Re: Unai Emery
The thought process, the club, behind considering Mourinho for the job is based around the fear of a fourth year without CL football. We will miss out on £45m if we don't qualify for it. The club's intentions were made obvious with our movement in the transfer market in the summer; Emery has the squad to get 3rd or 4th. The more we miss out the less appealing we look to top managers and players and we CANNOT afford to continue to miss out and lag behind. If we don't get top 4 this year then we will lose either Laca or Auba - or even both if they force the issue.
The club may see Mourinho as the person to temporarily sort the shit out and get us CL football next year.
Whatever their rational, we need the mess fixed quickly because we're circling the drain and Emery's clueless.

Re: Unai Emery
I see Arseblog is calling for a change of manager .... listing out some damning stats against Emery to back his stance.
Fair enough ... but where was this stance between 2009-2017 with the previous manager?
Guys like Sid on here and a number of others who have been calling for Emery’s head, I have no problem with. They were all rapid Wenger Out for a number of years and their argument is completely consistent.
Arseblogger and a number of other bloggers who defended Wenger or held back in their criticism suddenly seem to have developed a ruthless streak they didn’t have before. Funny that
