Just read on Twitter that Villa suffered no shots on target against them in the Premier League for the first time since January 2016 when they played West Brom !
Make every excuse you want for copy cat Pep, but tonight was worse than anything served up under Wenger or Emery
No shots on goal - not against Barca or ManUre or Citeh....against a Villa team who fluked their way into the division and have let in 66 goals
The improvement continues!
It was an awful performance and Arteta deserves serious stick for sending out such an imbalanced, lacklustre team that failed to produce a single shot on target
As for whether it’s worse than anything served up by Emery or Wenger, personally I think I’ve seen worse down the years.
For me, Wenger losing 8-2 to Manure and 6-0(?) against Chavs was worse.
And of course Emery’s major flaw was at the other end and getting the team organised. As recently as this season, emery had a few horror stats himself. How about:
- in our first 13 games of the 2019/20 season, Emery’s Arsenal had conceded 225 shots
- by September 2019 we’d conceded more shots against us than any other club in Europe’s TOP 5 leagues
- in November 2019 we conceded a record 31 shots against relegation fodder Watford
I can understand your criticism of Arteta but surely you need to have some balance and accept that Emery was seriously struggling too? I liked Emery but his team was in freefall and neither Freddie or Arteta have managed to improve things. It’s been a horror show all season.
I've lost count of how many times I've talked about Emery having his faults and far from being his number one fan, I have admitted where he went wrong. The decision to have the captain voted in was a joke and none of those stats you mention are ones to be especially proud of....however 31 shots flying here, there and everywhere in a game we drew is hardly as bad as not registering a shot on target against one of the league's whipping boys
What I'm not having is this massive improvement bullshit. The simple facts are that we are lower in the league and still producing absolutely awful performances on a regular basis, dotted around the odd decent one here and there. Far from being in freefall our team had just won the Europa League group and were 7th. Results fell away as things came to a head with Xhaka and Ozil in particular, so what do you do then? Take some short term pain, or pander to the prick and reinstate him to the team?
I'd rather have finished 14th with the kids playing and knowing that Xhaka, Mustafi, Ozil and others were on the way out, than finish 10th and start building a team around the first two. I'd have taken Lacazette going too despite the odd decent game lately
Did anyone seriously think Emery could keep everyone happy when he was trying to rid the squad of Wenger's wankers of the past decade....and have us playing beautiful football, with a watertight defence and qualifying for the CL? If they did, then I reckon most of our fans should end up on AFTV with the rest of the songs
We are going backwards - the selections and substitutions are equally baffling, the football is sterile to the point of resembling walking football and we have tried and tested c.unts who have failed on dozens of occasions being senior figures in the team. How anyone can't see that is beyond me? If an English manager had overseen a performance like that last night we would be hearing about football from the dark ages and such phrases as "tactically naive". Because its baby Pep, supposedly we are "more organised" and "showing improvement". If you give me the option of a helter skelter draw at Watford where we conceded 31 shots, or going down with a whimper and without a point or shot at Villa, I know which I would take
