Watching the goodbye interview with Martinez and he genuinely looks gutted to be leaving, which makes me wonder why he is going.
Why leave the club you love, challenging for trophies, to join one who will be in relegation battles year after year?
If he had backed himself he could still have easily displaced Leno, who as we know isn’t adverse to making a few mistakes, during the season.
Because (a) he has spent 10 years of his career being nowhere near first choice for a club and (b) he knows that his stock has never been higher so he can get a premier league club to buy him when that wasnt the case 12 months ago, and might not be the case in 12 months time either.
Only a Premier League club for this season, most probably....

According to @FabrizioRomano, nothing has changed with Thomas Partey & #Arsenal will have to pay his release clause of €50m to sign him. The same applies with Houssem Aouar. Lyon remain fixed in their valuation of €60m. https://t.co/4fAJ4Ovvm8
According to @skysports_sheth, Lucas Torreira's transfer to Torino is edging closer. Season long loan with an obligation to buy for around £22m. #Arsenal https://t.co/eBomcJQkRw
I think we have to unload a couple more before we sign anyone from overseas as we will be in breach of the home grown rule.
We can sign as many overseas players as we want but can only register a set amount of them - our problem isnt that we will break any rules, but the fact that we need to sell them to raise funds to buy
According to @FabrizioRomano, Houssem Aouar is #Arsenal’s top target & the player would like to join, but Arsenal have not yet made a new bid. https://t.co/mPlVbpMq8g
The Express say #Arsenal are readying a bid for Aouar. One they hope will be successful & will result in the France international making a sensational move to north London. https://t.co/x0SNcYSZpY

We sold Marinez because we need to raise money to fund any more transfers ,and he left because I'm sure he's getting a lot more money himself ,,at this point almost anyone is for sale given the right amount of dosh but we haven't been overwhelmed by people trying to buy the less gifted in our squad .
