Utd 2 down after 20mins against Leipzig
Re: other matches this weekend
Saliba got sent off for 2 yellows this evening as our u-21s lost in the papa johns cup against wimbledon - he got sent off in the 89th min with the score 2-0 at the time, and we had some other kid sent off for two yellows a while before that

Re: other matches this weekend
PSG game stopped for last 10 mins, players gone back into dressing rooms, apparently 1 of the coaching staff of the team PSG are playing accused the 4th official of calling him the n word, so their players refusing to play on
What a shame in Paris. 4th ref said “the black guy” when indicating to the ref who should be booked on Istanbul’s bench. Istanbul Basaksehir walks off the pitch for racism. “Why you call him black man?!”, Istanbul players are literally furious.

The only thing I’m enjoying about association football at the moment is the complete demise of Barca and Real.
They’re taking hammerings every other week, great to see.

Tin hat on here but why is calling a black man “the black guy over there” considered racist?mcdowell42 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:29 pm

I could be wrong but it looks like he was the only black guy (should I asterisk that out?

I’m happy to be called out as wrong here but I don’t get why it led to a mass walkout and match cancellation. Seems a ridiculous overreaction that shouldn’t be indulged.

That said, the official was incredibly naive given the current climate

Re: other matches this weekend
I think you also need to consider where the ref is from and his level of English- which should be ok, but doesn't have to be fluent or native speaker level. Yes, he probably should have used the player's number rather than the colour of his skin but if his language level only enabled him to identify him this way, then really, is it worth walking off the pitch for? I'd quite like to see the Turkish players and management, identify players in a second or third language and describe their features without mentioning whether a player was black or white.g88ner wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 6:10 amTin hat on here but why is calling a black man “the black guy over there” considered racist?mcdowell42 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:29 pm

I could be wrong but it looks like he was the only black guy (should I asterisk that out?) on the bench, so referring to the most obvious distinguishing feature that sets him apart from his colleagues (his skin colour) seems a good way of quickly identifying him. Certainly the police would have referred to him as an IC3 (black) male in the same way that I’m an IC1 male and that’s definitely not racist.

Re: other matches this weekend
So the campaign is called Black Lives Matter and that's acceptable but to refer to an individual as "the black guy" is deemed offensive. As you say, maybe the official could have chosen his words more carefully but to all walk off is a complete overreaction imo.g88ner wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 6:10 amTin hat on here but why is calling a black man “the black guy over there” considered racist?mcdowell42 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:29 pm
