On BBC Website:
Arsenal will prioritise offloading players in the January transfer window, says manager Mikel Arteta.
Midfielder Mesut Ozil, whose deal expires in summer 2021, has been left out of the Gunners' Premier League and Europa League squads this season.
Defenders Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac have barely featured in the league in 2020-21.
"We cannot sustain the numbers that we have in certain positions," said Arteta.
"There are some players that are going to go on loan and going to leave, and that is the priority.
"Then we will see if we have the right opportunity in the positions where we need some more help."
Who could be on the move in January?
When asked about reports that Bosnia-Herzegovina left-back Kolasinac is close to a return to former club Schalke, Arteta said: ""The numbers we have in the squad at the moment are really big, but we cannot confirm anything yet."
Arsenal have three first-team players out on loan - centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos is at Stuttgart, while midfielders Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi are at Atletico Madrid and Hertha Berlin respectively.
The Gunners are 13th in the Premier League after 16 games, following back-to-back victories over Brighton and Chelsea that ended a run of seven matches without a win.
They host 19th-placed West Bromwich Albion on 2 January (20:00 GMT kick-off).

We should deffo have a go at getting jack Harrison from Leeds, never stops running, can defend but his attacking play is brilliant, beats a man and puts a great cross in.

Granted BUT, we are now hearing about how this transfer window is going to be all about getting rid instead of buying in, and if we had of got rid of them 12 months ago we could be further down the road to recovery and been in a position to buy players now when we really need them.
In other words we have just wasted 12 months

Sead Kolasinac has agreed to join Bundesliga side Schalke on loan for the remainder of the season
Kolasinac: "I’m happy & proud to be wearing the blue of Schalke again. The club is currently in a difficult situation. Over the coming weeks & months I want to do my part to help us pick up as many points as possible. We will manage to stay up together, I’m 100% convinced of it!"

Happy New Year you miserable fucker

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
My understanding was the majority of those deals fell through because of player wages not by any desire for the club or manager to keep those players. Or am I remembering wrong?augie wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 3:08 pmmcdowell42 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 1:53 pmAh jesusAugie what does it matter as long as we do get rid of them.

No you are right Clummo, the same reason we cannot off-load Ozil is because of his Huge Wages, and it also applies to Sokratis, Kolasinac et al
Mind you it was ever the same with the likes of bendtner, Denison and quite a few others: Wenger had agreed deals where they were earning way, WAY above their true worth and we ended up being stuck with them...It seems to be something of an Arsenal tradition / faux pas

Xhaka had deal agreed and pep's cone boy convinced him to stay.
Other deals should have gone through with AFC subsidising the players wage at their new club - keeping an unwanted player on full wages, or paying half his wages to fcuk off elsewhere ..... it should be a no brainer

Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac is joining Schalke on loan for the rest of the season after Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said offloading players was the January transfer window "priority".
Bosnia-Herzegovina left-back Kolasinac, 27, began his career with the German side before moving to Arsenal in 2017.
"We cannot sustain the numbers we have in certain positions," Arteta had said earlier on Thursday.
"There are some players that are going to go on loan and going to leave."
He added: "That is the priority. Then we will see if we have the right opportunity in the positions where we need some more help."
Kolasanic has made 113 appearances for Arsenal and was part of last season's FA Cup-winning squad.
This term, he has started only one Premier League match but has featured in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.
Arsenal technical director Edu said: "Sead needs to be playing regularly, so we have decided together that a move back to Germany with Schalke will benefit him at this moment."
Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi has also barely featured in the league in 2020-21, while German midfielder Mesut Ozil, whose deal expires in summer 2021, was left out of the Gunners' Premier League and Europa League squads this season.
