Usual thread starter… Interesting that Vela is 12, but Merida has not been given a number. I don’t think Fran will get his chance now. He’ll be played a little with a view to a sale, but his number is up.
If not, surely he’d have been allocated a spot in the same way as Vela.
So much for youtube compilations of dribbling round Spanish schoolkids, eh?

Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Lansbury, Gavin Hoyte,
Wot no numbers?
Randall looked very good against Sunderland, Gibbs excited pre season.
I am not expecting either to start many games, if any, but would have thought they would be on the bench occasionally.
I think a further set of squad numbers will be released prior to Champions Legaue registration.

Yeah, I see it the same way.... the fact they haven't been allocated a squad number, to me, suggests they'll be loaned out next season.G-Man wrote:i thought the same thing, but maybe they will be out on loan alot next season?QuartzGooner wrote:Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Lansbury, Gavin Hoyte,

Loaning out our young players is a natural progression, and a useful half-way house between reserve team and first team football; so, in that repsect, they're just following in the footsteps of Cashley, Bentley, Song, Djourou, Hoyte, etc.
With regards to Merida, this concerns me, as he has already spent time away from the club on loan. To be loaned out again would suggest to me that he might be surplus to requirements...especially if he is loaned out to another Spanish club.

Randall also could not make the team at BURNLEY!QuartzGooner wrote:Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Lansbury, Gavin Hoyte,

Yeah but Martin Keown was talking about loans, and how there is jealousy from the players at the Championship clubs who our players get loaned to. So sometimes the managers of those teams end up leaving the loanees on the bench so as to not upset the regular contracted players, and the whole loan becomes a waste of time for us.gus ceasar is a legend wrote:Randall also could not make the team at BURNLEY!QuartzGooner wrote:Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Lansbury, Gavin Hoyte,

Let us see how Randall does this season, I have only seen him play 11 minutes of so of first team football so I cannot say much about him.

Nah, I doubt that comes into it.khalid_red wrote:Does anyone think that Number 14 will be left for some time?
I think it will because the wearer would have loads of pressure with it.
Number 6 and 10 were big shirts to fill after Adams and Bergkamp left, but I think we can all agree that Senderos and Gallas have filled them adequately enough

Reports seem to suggest that Nasri (if he ever signs) will take the number 8..so maybe 14 has been reserved for our new holding midfielder....if we ever sign one

Randall looked excellent in the Sunderland game, wrongly having his well taken debut goal chalked off. I also seem to remember Burnley saying a lot of good things about him and wanting to renew the loan for the coming season. But I'd like to see him with us, looks like he's got a lot of potential.gus ceasar is a legend wrote:Randall also could not make the team at BURNLEY!QuartzGooner wrote:Merida, Gibbs, Randall, Lansbury, Gavin Hoyte,
