I think what people are forgetting here is that there is a new variant in play.

Back in May when there were few cases we were going along fine - we might as well have opened up then.
The problem is that Boris let the Indians in with their new highly transmissable Delta variant so in reality we should have locked down further at that point.
Yes it is fantastic that the vaccines are working, BUT with the number of cases poised to now really explode then there is a big chance that this thing mutates as we approach winter.
Then what? If the vaccines prove useless against a mutation then this country is fucked.

Boris has gambled today by doing something no other country on earth would risk doing.

Good luck everyone.
Fuck me sideways this world really has a lot of pussies in it, man the fuck up.

look I want to open up, AND with the vaccine rollout we should be already free to do what we want !
The Government have already delayed for a month which was due to this new variant which I have been furious about.
I haven't been able to watch the Euros standing in a pub thanks to Boris. Fucking joke.
But why open up now when cases are rising more than they were last month! Only a brainwashed idiot could think that is a good idea.

BBC:

Coronavirus cases in the UK have risen above 30,000 for first time since January, official figures show.

Wednesday's data showed there had been a further 32,548 confirmed Covid cases.
But deaths remained low, with another 33 reported within 28 days of a positive Covid test.
It comes as Boris Johnson has defended the government's approach to easing England's lockdown, saying the link between infection and serious disease and death has been "severed".
The prime minister has pledged to scrap most of England's coronavirus regulations at step four of the roadmap out of lockdown, expected on 19 July.
It means the government is now braced for a surge in coronavirus cases, possibly around 100,000 a day, as restrictions are lifted.
Millions could end up self-isolating this summer

30,000 new cases a day and rising in the UK - waaahayyyy Party Time :barscarf:

meanwhile in Tokyo - 2,000 new cases a day. NO Spectators allowed at all for the Olympics.

England might have the best football team at the moment but we also have the stupidest leader.

The UK is experiencing a marked increase in new Covid infections, say experts from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Latest data from swab tests in the community suggests one in every 160 people has the virus.

That is up from one in every 250 in the previous week. For England, it is the highest level since mid February.

The more infectious Delta variant now accounts for 99% of cases, according to Public Health England.

Around two-thirds of adults have now been double jabbed against the virus, and experts say this is helping prevent very big rises in Covid hospitalisations, although admissions are increasing.

Many of the infections being seen are among teenagers and young adults.

An estimated 400,000 people in the UK are thought to have been positive in the week to 3 July.

The final step of unlocking is expected to go ahead as planned on 19 July in England. It will be confirmed on 12 July after a review of data.

On Friday the latest government figures showed an increase of 35,707 Covid cases across the UK - the highest daily figure since 22 January. A further 29 deaths within 28 days of a positive test were also recorded.

I assume with now two thirds of the adult population doubled jabbed they feel that although infections are rising rapidly that hospital admission levels are still low enough for the system to cope - so it’s open up time.

I think I read that the jabs won’t actually work on about 10% of the population, another set percentage will refuse to have it (their choice I guess in a free society) so we will be dealing with this for years to come, but hopefully without the huge numbers of deaths.

The different variants that have and will continue to emerge are obviously worrying, but what is the alternative ?

Life must continue.

I suppose it just comes down to how many deaths per day the country is prepared to tolerate.
The delta variant is scary though - majority of the population is vaccinated, it is middle of the summer, yet we are seeing more deaths than this time last year!

This winter will be….difficult

I have absolutely no idea what Boris Johnson is going on about - making it up as he goes along.

Freedom day - but take it slowly.
So why we opening up then ??
