ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
With no European football Arteta will have the luxury of picking our best 11 week in week out. Depth this year isn't as important as pure quality given we will be playing at least 10 less games less & that's being generous as our Europea League campaign last year was 14 games.
Its the one advantage we will have over our rivals in the race for 4th. & I actually think finishing 4th is not far fetched. make good signings in midfield and at the back, sort the keeper situation out and settle on a first team & get a rhythm going. As of now I would pencil in Saka, PEA, ESR, Tierney, Pepe, Partey as expected first team players, but the rest are up for grabs. Thats included our centre halves positions. If we sign White I would pair him with Holding and give them time.
No excuses for Arteta. Two 8th places finishes in a row is atrocious. But now with no midweek football he has been given a high handicap. If he cant use this to our advantage to BARE MINIMUM' challenge 4th (im talking being no more than 3 points from 4th), then he must be sacked.

I’d never even heard of Ben White before we first got linked with him a few weeks back, not sure whether that says more about him or me

Ben White is going to be great. But surely we need a couple of centre mids. One to sit with Partey and one to create. Wrong priorities for me.

We need a quality right back first. I mean we really, really need a quality right back
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
As such my first team is:
Leno/Ramsdale (apparently we are getting him). Honestly I have no idea who will be our GK at Brentford
NEW RB Holding White Tierney
Partey NEW CM
Saka ESR Pepe
PEA
Still need to sort out Xhaka, Torriera, Willock, Nketiah, Soares, Kolasinac, Bellerin, Leno, AMN. The amount of players need we need to cycle through is ridiculous. The pressing ones are getting decent fees for Torriera, Xhaka and Bellerin - these players need to go for the sake of the dressing room. They cannot come back. No loan deals too, they need to be sold.
I think Leno will stay, I think Nketiah will stay, and I get the feeling AMN will stay. Still need to sign at least 4-5 more players.
That RB signing is really important. Its the first time in a while I have been optimistic about finding a backline that could offer some stability.
Get a core group of players to play week to week which can be done with no European football midweek. Have a more solid backline & offer Partey a decent partner, have faith in Saka and ESR development. Pepe can do 15 league goals I believe. PEA , Martinelli and Laca can play upfront and across the front three & are all capable goal scorers.
Were being written off as top 4 contenders but I think we can blow a hole in the naysayers. FOr instance, I look at Man United who finished second last year & I say fuck it, we can finish ahead of that squad.

With Ben White and this Portugese bloke, we're now only about six or seven players and manager away from really competing for a Europa League spot.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Are people getting excited about Ben White just because of the fee being touted?
I'm unashamed to say that I'm with Rodders. I'd never heard of the bloke before we were linked with him.

Since its mid july i'd be excited at the signing of a new lunch lady such is the unbelievably stupid way we go about our business.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread

I hadn't heard of Van Dyke until he signed for the mousers

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Well yeah. I’m interested in any first team player we sign but when it’s for £50m (or £72m for Pepe) then it definitely peaks the interest as you obviously hope we’re spending that much for a very good reason!
Never heard of him 6 months ago but that’s not a surprise as I never watch Brighton

BBC: Arsenal to sign Brighton's Ben White in £50m deal
Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle for the £50m transfer of Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White.
White was a late call-up to Gareth Southgate's England Euro 2020 squad.
It completes a meteoric rise for the 23-year-old, who was released by Southampton as a youngster before being signed by Brighton.
He went on a number of loans from the Seagulls, including to Leeds' Championship title-winning side in 2019-20.
White's performances for Leeds attracted the attention of many leading clubs and prompted Brighton to secure him on a new four-year contract last summer.
That deal put the Seagulls in a strong negotiating position this summer and it is understood they rejected two bids from the Gunners before agreement was finally reached amid interest from other Premier League clubs.
White is on holiday so the transfer, including his medical, will not be completed until he returns.
The transfer comes as Arsenal part ways with Brazil defender David Luiz after his contract expired.
The Gunners have also signed 21-year-old left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica for £8m this summer.
