The idea that Arteta has some of kind of an issue with young players is far fetched. There were obvious attitude issues with Guendouzi which goes far beyond having a bit of a spike. There were issues between him and the coaching staff in Dubai and whatever happened after the Brighton game and his refusal to apologise was the last straw. I don't think any manager would take such sh*t from a young player who has achieved f*ck all. Hell Arteta didn't even spare Auba and publicly slandered him for lack of discipline (wrongly in my opinion).

There is a lot is sympathy for Saliba among fans and rightfully so but none of us have seen him play enough to make a judgement on whether he is good enough. The fact that we paid close to 30 million on a 19 yr old center back is not Arteta's fault and that kind of fuels the outrage. No one would think twice if Saliba was just another player with potential being sent out on loan.

Nelson, Eddie, AMN have been given enough chances and most agree they are just not good enough.

I agree that Arteta has got it wrong with Martinelli and there is no justification to play Willian and Auba (from the left) over him but I see Martinelli as a player with a lot of raw talent but who is not a finished article yet. Its still early days to make a judgement that Arteta doesn't fancy him.

You just need to look at the minutes that Saka and ESR got last season to know that young players will be given a chance if they are good enough. There was in fact over reliance on Saka.
You can say that he's a 19 year old CB with potential but he's not had a single opportunity to show what he's about, for the first team. Mustafi and Luiz had chance after chance to play, despite consisting us goals and points but the most highly rated CB in French football (one which Saint-Étienne were gutted to see leave) can't even make the bench for a team that needs to improve defensively? You can't say he's not ready when he hasn't even had a chance to show it. I'd rather have given Saliba a chance to show that he is ready then continue keeping games to Mustafi, who is a heartbeat away from something stupid. If Saliba's performances showed that he wasn't ready then at least it can be said with certainty, and an appropriate loan arranged.

He didn't get a single opportunity from the start of the season until he went on loan in January. Not even a place on the bench. He then went on loan to Nice in January and WALKED into their team. He won January's player of the month award for them and, at the end of the season, was nominated for Ligue 1's team of the year.

So, after a successful loan spell with Nice surely he'd have the opportunity to play a role in the Arsenal set-up? No. Another loan to another French team. It's pretty farcical, to be honest with you.

Even if you're thinking "he's a young CB who's never played in the PL before, so the loans make sense," let me point your memory to Saliba's former Saint-Étienne's teammate, Wesley Fofana. He was 19 when he signed for Leicester, played 28 times in the league and 6 times in the Europa League and had a very good season. If Leicester can give Fofana a chance, in the same circumstances, why can't Arteta give Saliba a chance? Particularly when you consider that Saliba is rated higher than Fofana.

Your comment that "it's still early days to make a judgement that Arteta doesn't fancy" Martinelli ignores the games in which Arteta didn't bother bringing him on, or didn't even start him. We know he came back from a long-term injury but there were a few games in the EL that he should have started. There were many instances where he could have come off the bench, or done so sooner, to create chances and try and score goals. We all know the talent and ability that he has, but Arteta doesn't even try to utilise him.

Nketiah has had countless chances throughout the season, Martinelli (when he returned from injury) barely had a sniff.

Arteta's management of certain youth players is quite shocking. He has his favourites and, it appears, he'd rather cut off his nose to spite his face than give certain players a chance.

Saliba given zero chance and donkeys like mustafi preferred over him

guendouzi relegated to the bench almost straight away with preference given to xhaka, ceballos and elnenny. Wasnt a word of discipline issues when emery was there, but as soon as arteta is there all these stories are floated. People say we cant talk and believe rumours about things we dont know, yet the dubai story and the offering arteta out stories are taken as gospel  For the record if we sign Aouar I would consider that as a big upgrade on guendouzi and will be on board with his sale - if however we start the season with 2 from partey, elnenny and xhaka, then obviously I will still see the guendouzi sale as petty

I would love to see where all those chances nelson has had under arteta - reality check for you ..... he got fcuk all chances. If you doubt me you can go and get his stats cos they will back up the fact that he has been squeezed out by this clown

Also isnt it very convenient for people like you to point at the minutes smith rowe got last season as a defence of arteta, when majority of fans acknowledge that he brought in smith-rowe cos injuries and suspensions forced his hand and he had no choice. First chance he got he signed a player on loan and pushed smith-rowe out of his preferred position.
I think there is some confirmation bias here Augie :)

The plan was always to loan Saliba out untill we f*cked up and couldn't complete the paper works in time. Leaving Saliba out from the Europa league squad was a mistake and Arteta has said he regretted it. There was a lot of centrebacks in that squad and the only reason Mustafi got games is because we had injuries. So Mustafi played over Saliba due to circumstances not because Arteta thinks he is better.

If a manager who is a disciplinarian considers a player to be a trouble maker, unless they are Messi or Ronaldo, he will not play that player even if the alternatives are sh*t. There is a line that should not be crossed and obviously Douzi went way beyond. He was getting games till Brighton and something happened that day that made the relationship untenable between the manager and him. Its funny how Douzi is being turned out to be some kind of martyr :D . We have let go of far better players for far less.

Nelson got minutes in the Europa league and obviously didn't impress enough. Would any of us shed a tear if he is sold this summer?

Even if Arteta got lucky with ESR, the fact that he has played so many games since Dec and is now given a new contract and a new number is testament to the fact that good performances will be rewarded regardless of your age.

Absolutely and this nonsense about him not being ready yet is frankly embarassing - how the fcuk will he develop and progress if he isnt getting regular game time, and by that I mean a lot more than he is getting now ? If people say that he isnt ready to be the number 9 yet I will accept it, but he is ready to play the left wing (where he excelled under emery) NOW, and there is no excuse for how he is being treated

My view on it is that Arteta as a novice manager is risk averse. He clings to the idea that the senior players will get the job done. Why did he sign Willian? He thought experience would help us. Wrong… He plays Xhaka and Auba and Partey and Luiz. However it is the youth that have dug us out of a hole. Re Martinelli, I just think he errs to the side of experience until that fails and then he throws him on for 10 minutes when we need a goal. Likewise any game time Martinelli has ever got as a starter is when the senior players are out injured. You could actually say that ESR and Saka only got thrown in when injuries came.

Arteta clearly has a massive ego, just like Wenger. I suspect Martinelli has said something Arteta didn’t like at some time and now, like a petulant child, Arteta is virtually ignoring him despite giving the likes of Willian loads more minutes when clearly he wasn’t fit for non-league footy, let alone PL!
We’ll end up selling Martinelli for 25-30m and he’ll become a top top player.
Arteta is just not mature or experienced enough to handle all the players.

Lies, lies and lies. Mustafi was injured for the first 3 months of that season and he still registered mustafi ahead of saliba  Arteta even did an interview at the end of july saying that we had to sign a centre back cos of mustafi's long term injury, and yet he still shoved saliba out

Btw, peps cone boy was in charge for 13 league games before the brighton game - guendouzi started 3 of them

Guendouzi offered Arteta out. He was finished once he did that.
I have wondered if Saliba, ended up being Guendouzi’s big mate and got himself a trouble maker tag as a result.
Maybe he needs to mature a lot more and knuckle down ?

Bigging up Martinelli again today along with KT and ESR. Doesn't seem words of a manager that doesn't trust the player. But ofcourse he is trying to fool everyone. :D

And those same young players have committed long term to the club, and Arteta too.

So they must trust “the process”, whatever the hell it is ?!

This one not going away...from todays Metro

Arsenal are actively looking to sell Alexandre Lacazette for £15 million in order to fund their move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, according to reports.

Chelsea have been open to offers for Abraham since the start of the transfer window but are demanding a £40m fee for the 23-year-old.
