Re: Mikel Arteta, success or failure? - Merged thread.
More time, excuses, tough start, Covid becoming the new "financial doping', more irrelevant excuses, some shit about processes, not considering a change at the moment, can turn things around. It's like every single comment, quote or twisted truth that the club has trotted out for the last 15 years. Just like 2008-2018, results don't matter, nothing will change. We will get absolutely destroyed by City but it will all be written off as an irrelevance and we'll all be back to living the 2009/10/11/12/13/14/15/16/17/18 nightmare all over again. Never going anywhere and refusing to make a change but nobody at the club actually cares.

I've decided today I'm going to waste 130m of my company's money but blame it all on "COVID chaos" - I mean its totally acceptable for a senior leader to live in the land of the explainable variance right, rather than actually take any positive action of your own/
Black roll neck on, lots of pointing at staff and then going to record a video where I tell everyone after they've lost their jobs in three years time that they'll look back and understand how difficult my job was at the time
I'm sure my pay rise and promotion is on the way

It is comical that the common narrative these days is that we were an absolute car crash when lego head took over - I dont care whether people rated emery or not, but we were coming off a season where we narrowly missed out on top 4 (partially through negligence from emery), and where a second half collapse seen us lose the europa league final. We had a bright bubbling team that were playing fast and committed football, and players like martinelli, guendouzi and torreira looked like they would be main stays in the team for years to come.
We were far from perfect under emery, and emery himself was far from flawless then too, but this car crash is on pep's water boys head

The team Arteta took over WAS a car crash thoughaugie wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:02 am

And it’s great you thought Torreira and Guendouzi looked like mainstays for years to come… can you please convince other clubs of their quality because no fucker in world football seems willing to pay actual money for them

Re: Mikel Arteta, success or failure? - Merged thread.
There's the truth right there - obviously I give Emery far more credit than most on here, but the truth is that the last decade under Wenger was spiralling downwards. It needed a few clubs to catch up for people to take notice but he allowed Liverpool, Leicester and Spurs to overtake us which was unforgiveable given our advantage over all of themg88ner wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:00 amThe team Arteta took over WAS a car crash thoughaugie wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:02 am

in fact it was a car crash under Wenger too for that matter. We’ve been dogshit for years.

We WERE a car crash when Martinez-Lite took over.
Now we are a multiple vehicle pile up on a motorway with dead bodies strewn all over the place.
The fact that Martinez-Lite is worse does not change the fact Emery was a disaster.

Agreed. Both had some potential and both had some great performances but both also had some shockers. They were seriously inconsistent under Emery.g88ner wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:00 amThe team Arteta took over WAS a car crash thoughaugie wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 8:02 am

Also agreed. Emery inherited his own car crash. He wasn't up to the job but the current idiot is far worse than both Wenger and Emery.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:04 amThere's the truth right there - obviously I give Emery far more credit than most on here, but the truth is that the last decade under Wenger was spiralling downwards. "Bubbling team playing fast and committed football" Are you taking the piss?
Torreira and Guendopey? Mainstays if the team for years to come?
Torreira had spent the last 6 months of Dicks reign, telling anyone that would listen, that he was unhappy and wanted out, he also rarely made Dicks starting 11.
Guendopey, was, is and always will be utter dogshite, as he has proved since he left!
Narrowly missed out on top 4? No! absolutely blew the easiest run-in ever blowing top 4!
Re: Mikel Arteta, success or failure? - Merged thread.
Wouldn't it be good if the present goon gave us the chance to fluff the run in for the top 4.
Maybe when we're in the Championship we'll find out

I was fairly supportive of Emery in his latter days (Europa final and 5th place doesn’t seem so bad now either) however I accepted that the majority of the fan base wanted him out towards the end and so his position became untenable.
I just wonder if we are maybe reaching that point with Arteta now ?
If we fail to beat Norwich I don’t think he can retrieve the situation.

Re: Mikel Arteta, success or failure? - Merged thread.
I see that we've sold out our allocation of 2,750 tickets for tomorrow. That surprised me (pleasantly) but I think it also shows this cup is important to us. Most fans I know of sane mind are expecting the humping that will follow at City. Lose in the SECOND round of the Carabao Cup, and have a 2 week break to the Norwich game because of internationals, and the pressure on that single game will be probably like no other AFC manager has faced in a long time. Certainly even a draw in that situation - 1 point from 12 and out of the League Cup - would surely leave him dangling by the finest of threads? Having said that we may well have spent between £150m-£200m by then, and you wonder how that goes down with potential new managers who almost certainly would want to make massive changes of their own in January and the following Summer?Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 3:53 pmI was fairly supportive of Emery in his latter days (Europa final and 5th place doesn’t seem so bad now either) however I accepted that the majority of the fan base wanted him out towards the end and so his position became untenable.
