- - Arsene Wenger is ready to unleash yet another sensational talent on the premiership in Mexican striker Carlos Vela.
The 18 year old marksman, on lone at Spanish side Salamanca, has been tearing defences apart – setting up around half of their 53 goals last season and scoring 8 in 31 appearances himself.
Arsenal snapped Vela two years ago when, as a sixteen year old, he scored 5 goals at the under 17-world championship in Peru.
One of those goals came in the final, where Mexico crushed Brazil 3-0, and earned the youngster the competitions Golden Boot.
Arsenal last night confirmed Wenger is close to deciding whether to apply for a work permit for the brilliant young hit man to play in the first team this season or to leave him in Spain where he will end up with an EU passport by next January anyway.
Vela is believed to have the ability to follow the likes of Cesc Fabregas as being a key first team player despite his tender years.
In fact, it was just two months ago the normally reserved Wenger admitted to being hugely excited by Vela’s awesome potential.
Wenger said: “ I like his intelligence and his pace. He scores goals but he can also create them. He’s a very special talent and I believe 100% that he will make it at the highest level.â€

I dont want to sensationalise Vela at the moment. The little i've seen of him, he appears to be quite a talent. I think Arsene should try to apply for a work permit for him before the season starts. It will be a good idea to try him out in the Carling Cup rather than loan him for another year. Anyone seen him play in the under 20 world cup?
