ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Am I the only one who thinks that splashing £7.5m on a back up keeper is extravagant ? We have so many holes in our first 11 that need filling in the summer (especially in the strikers dept), and shelving out the type of money for a player that shouldnt see much league action seems ridiculous to me. In a way I'd liken it to manure's signing of the ladyboy - they have a shit defence and an average (at best) midfield, yet the sign a 37 year old and give him £500k per week when the already have enough players in his position

Agreed Augie, but apparently there were a number of other Big Clubs ( well we gotta keep believing we are one
) very interested in him; including Real Madrid, The Chavs and Man City to name but 3. There is also a bit of mis-information that we bought him purely to develop and then sell at a profit, all reports say he is Very VERY Good.

Also means we can sell Leno, who doesn’t (rightly so) get game time now for £15-£20m and would probably be a relatively high earner and still have adequate back up, so I have no problem with that deal.OneBardGooner wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 9:14 amAgreed Augie, but apparently there were a number of other Big Clubs ( well we gotta keep believing we are one) very interested in him; including Real Madrid, The Chavs and Man City to name but 3. Saw a report yesterday that Maddison may be available in the summer for £35m, which seems a great deal. ( but why would a paper know what price they would be willing to accept ? )

Problem is that I dont think that we will get that type of money for leno now UNLESS the geordies come in for him - the premier league is where the money is, and no european club will spend that on him methinks.
Madisson is a player I rated highly a couple of years ago but now it is a firm no thanks from me - (a) his reputation has attracted question marks over his attitude/arrogance in the last couple of seasons (b) more importantly he fills a position where we are over stocked (smith-rowe and odeargod) and the type of money would make the deal a no no imo
Tbh Tielemens is the leicester player I would go all out for this summer - quality and with just 12 months left on his contract should be reasonably priced

I concur Tielemans is a better bet . Maddison is a bit like Grealish an over hyped , diving , cheating legend in his own mind . Honestly just say how many games you have seen him take by the scruff of the neck and run .
Not many I would think.

I would like to see James Ward-Prowse in our team, always give this all, is tough and let's be honest can strike a ball sweetly.

You will still get more for Leno than you spend on Turner so not sure what the problem is, I would imagine his wages will be less too so if he is as good as been implied then it will be a good deal. Could the real reason you are unhappy be because Arteta is involved Augie?

Honest to god I dunno who is responsible for the transfers in our club - I constantly see fans blame edu for all the shit signings we made but lavish praise on pep's cone boy for all the good ones we make, and that is total hypocrisy and bullshit for me cos whoever makes the good ones is same person as made the bad ones ? Personally I would sell leno in the summer no hesitation, but by same token I think that we could pick up a good back up keeper for £5m max - people suggest that this keeper is really good and maybe he is, but he will be sitting on our bench unless he is better than ramsdale, and if he is better than ramsdale it will mean that we have the most expensive back up (ramsdale) in world football
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
£5m or £7.5m. Practically the same in modern football Augie. The difference would be made up in the salary saved on Leno anyway.
£7.5m on the Yank as a backup is hardly extravagant.

Isn't Chelsea's keeper the most expensive back up ?augie wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 4:35 pmGoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 4:28 pmYou will still get more for Leno than you spend on Turner so not sure what the problem is, I would imagine his wages will be less too so if he is as good as been implied then it will be a good deal. Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I think it's good business for an international back up keeper. I'd put him at the same level as Martinez was/is and he went for £20m on the back of winning the FA Cup. Leno will go for around £12m. I don't see the issue. What kind of keeper would we get for less than £5m? Runnarsson.augie wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 9:11 amAm I the only one who thinks that splashing £7.5m on a back up keeper is extravagant ?
