Not really sure what people expect when we only have limited means to improve the squad.

If the renewals of Elneny and Nketiah mean we can get good players like Tielemans and Jesus who can improve the squad, then I am all for it.

As for people who have turned their noses up at Jesus, please tell me who would bring in who is better? Because at £40-£50m I can't think of anyone.

If we dont have the money required to go out and buy a top quality number 9 then so be it, but then dont go out and piss away £50m on average tat like jesus and try to fob it off as a top signing - I'd rather spend £20m on a striker worth £20m, than spend £50m on a striker worth no more than £30m, even though on face of it you would be signing an inferior striker
I thought Jesus looked pretty good - who would you think is better then that would could bring in for around £50m? I don't think Dominic Calvert-Lewin is as good for example. The likes of Isak would be probably about £70m.

Didn't Jesus get 8 goals this season - 4 of which were in one game? Hardly prolific.

We really need someone to ideally get 15+ in the league.

Remember when we signed Chamakh from Bordeaux and he'd scored 15 goals or something the season before , but only four of them were with his feet?

I have no issue with Elneny’s renewal - he is an experienced squad player who does his best, a 6/7 out of 10 guy, and we need more bodies in the squad, so assuming he is not on silly money a reasonable deal to conclude.

Eddie, if rumours are to be believed 100, 000 k a week for a guy who got no minutes this season till the last 2 months when Lacca’s walking frame got thrown in the recycling by mistake.

Again, an honest guy, I’m sure but he is nowhere near one of our best or even most promising players and should not be on that amount ( if true)
Back up as 2nd / 3rd striker again ,no problem if it means we can bring in our no 1 top, super quality target, but not on that wage as an impact sub or cup game striker.

We should take a punt on Toney of Brentford (£23million) He is Big, Strong and can play both as the focal point for long balls or take the ball forward, I would take him before Nketiah or Jesus who is so lightweight he could walk in water! :D

An English Centre forward from dear old Brentford old chap....that wouldn't please the football snobs now would it, who would worship someone half as good from an inferior flaky division somewhere in Europe for double the money

We will sign more flaky c.unts in this window - if not Jesus, then some other lightweight imposter who won't lift a finger when we go a goal down. Pepe will leave and Pepe Mk II will join from some shit league and need years to adapt. Another pretty boy defender who can play the ball out nicely but will get roughed up the likes of Richarlison and Wilson will also join

Rinse and repeat, the Arteta way

Not a bad call. He's not a top striker/forward but would be a decent squad player or second striker for all the reasons you list. Would also offer that elusive concept of "something different" tactically that Martinez-Lite doesn't seem to understand....

Limited means? The bloke spent 160m last summer (highest net outgoing spend of any team in Europe) and is rumoured to have another 100m+ to spend again......and all this after two and a half years in charge. He's been gifted the warchest that wasn't made available to the previous guy.

The fact that he chose to spend £50m of it on Ben White when we had spent £27m on the best young defender in France, and he chose to punt him out is of his own making. He chose to let Auba go for nothing, Chambers for 2m and loan out a bus load of players like Guendouzi, Torreira, Mari and others when we could definitely have sold them (in Guendouzi's case for substantially more than the reported £9m option.....a full France international FFS :banghead: ). Two international midfielders pissed away for nothing, with £45m spent bringing paper ankles Partey the other way

Absolutely criminal waste of money all round. If he manages to persuade this lot to give him another 100m to invest, they are as insane as he is

Rashford was supposedly surplus to requirements and for less than £30m. Toney also wouldn't cost 50m. Liverpool have brought in talents like Mane and Diaz for way less than that, as did Spurs with Son. Players are out there and they don't all cost £50m - its lazy to go for someone like Jesus, and its not our job as fans to suggest alternatives. Jota didn't cost £50m. Jarrod Bowen didn't cost £50m. Ollie Watkins didn't cost £50m. In fact take a look at the leading scorers in the PL this season and ask who did:

Salah
Son
Ronaldo
Kane
Mane
De Bruyne
Jota
Vardy
Zaha
Sterling
Bowen
Maddison
Toney
Mount
Saka
Mahrez
Raphinha
Pukki
Watkins

A few did, but not many. If you scroll down to the 28th highest scorer you'll find lightweight Jesus on 8 goals (4 against relegated Watford in a single game)

Origi was another option I mentioned a while back and he's leaving Liverpool - he'd be available for half the money of Jesus, and vastly superior in my view

I think it is immaterial whether we spend £20M or £70M we are left with the same issue as we had with Auba, square pegs in round holes syndrome. I genuinely think you could by Haaland, Mbappe or even Messi at his best and they would struggle to score 20 goals for us.....

But hey what do I know, I've only been a coach for over 20 years, not a manager for 2 1/2

As a matter of interest who the fuck is Fabrizio Romano? I keep seeing him quoted as someone 'in the know' for transfers but I was wondering where he came from or what he had to do with anything.

SteveO when the story first broke at the start of the year that Rashford might want out I immediately put him top of my striker wish list because I could easily see him come here and absolutely bang. I think he’d quickly settle in to our side and score shit loads of goals, right age profile, used to the league andwould give us a badly need focal point up top.

Since then anytime I’ve watched united play I’ve kept a close eye on him and have to say my confidence in him has dipped massively. Now he may be completely unhappy there and wants out but his body language is atrocious, moping around the field, barely trying a leg and looks completely devoid of confidence.

I’d still take a punt and hope the change would revitalise his career but I’d be a lot more nervous than I was initially. Bang of Ozil about the way he no showed the last 6 months of the season, albeit in an absolute toxic united side.

My worry would then be what in our inconsistent side with a novice manager would get the best out of him?

Whatever "magic" Martinez-Lite supposedly has to make all our young players buy into his ideas, that supposed magic didn't stop Saka and Smith-Rowe suffering from huge plummets in form in the final third of the season. It also didn't stop Ohdeargod becoming the ultimate Wenger style flat track bully.
