I'd be surprised if we end up signing Tielemans at this stage. Firstly because it was a relatively easy deal to do and the fact that we have waited this long kind of suggests that the interest is not as concrete as what is being suggested.

Secondly, I just don't see where he fits in the system that we are playing currently. Tielemans is right footed and plays on the right , we need an an upgrade on Xhaka who is left footed and plays on the left. Tielemans is also not a box to box midfielder though neither is Xhaka even though he is being played as one. You can probably move Odegaard to the left and play Tielemans on the right but it's unlikely that Arteta would go that way.

Agree with OBG, I would rather go with someone like a Paqueta or even a Milinkovic Savic but they would be far more expensive.

If as reported it's Tieleman's wage demands that have held it up. Certain reports are speculating that his purchase price has been dropped . Could this be to provide the money for his wage demands or just 2 and 2 making 5.
Can't sell Pepe , swap him for Tielemans , sell Tielemans next year get some cash.

I mean he has said that he "wants to come to Arsenal" - but so would anyone grab onto something if the ship is sinking; which it looks like Leicester might well be doing this season.

And because Brenda made quite a number of unsuccessful signings last season, those players are on bloated wages which is why no one will take them off his hands and so the Leicester owners have said he will need to off-load the deadwood (on high wages) to reduce the wage bill before they can sign any new players, hence the no signings this window. The only players going out are the decent one's, but as to whether Teilmeanns is 'decent' is another question. What I have seen of him he looks good; at least better than Clive for starters. But Paqueta (sp?) from Lyon is a decent (attacking) Mid-fielder and I thought we were also meant to be interested in signing him.

- Daka £30m
- Soumare £20m
- Vestagaard £17.6m

Then you would be thinking differently to what many, many others are saying.

As G88ner correctly points out these players below appear to have failed to make the impact they were thought they would have when brought in:

- Daka £30m
- Soumare £20m
- Vestagaard £17.6m

And whilst not huge amounts / transfer fees by todays standards, never-the-less they have not contributed in the way that Brenda intended / hoped.

It is true Tielmanns will enter into the last season / year of his current contract, but the question raised was is he actually that good? Or is he what we need. In that when 'on form' Partey is excellent, but he tends to not have the kind & level of consistency that we need, which is why a player who would/could challenge him for the position of a (consistent)Holding Mid-field Player is what we need.

Not one of those transfers showed up on the website I was on - I was on the co.uk one and you were on the com website which proves that the british way is faillng down again I guess

And the price being quoted is 40 million euros which isn't much. Not sure why we are not in for him if we are looking for a midfielder at all.

Agreement reached between Arsenal and OGC Nice for the loan of Nicolas Pépé! The player is awaiting the green light now to travel to France. Reports, @Nice_Matin.

According to the information revealed by @Nice_Matin, Leicester City entered the race to sign Nicolas Pépé on loan and were willing to pay all of his wages, but the player decided to go to OGC Nice.


Nicolas Pépé to OGC Nice, verbal agreement completed with Arsenal in the afternoon. Main part of salary to be covered by French club. #AFC #OGCNice

Documents to be prepared soon - it’s loan deal with no buy option clause as expected.
