If he listened to his agent he may have been floating around the near bottom of the table with Villa with Starfish Gerrard as his manager stinking out the place. Sometimes it helps to be patient, he'll get plenty of game time this season!Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 5:36 pmg88ner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 4:12 pmNope, all still here and seem to be enjoying themselvesNatural Born Gooner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 3:49 pmWill this be before or after Martinelli, Smith-Rowe and Saka have all left us also like all the doom mongers predict?Nos89 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 2:32 pmHaaland looks like he's adjusted to premier League. I’d be delighted if we can tie Saliba down to a new contract sharpish though. He’s clearly a real star but his contract situation leaves me a little uneasy… don’t want his head being turned at the World Cup!
Really?? How much do you imagine that ESR is enjoying getting splinters in his arse, while watching Xhaka lumber around in an attacking centre mid position?? I rate ESR very highly indeed, but for some odd reason, it's looking as though he doesn't have a future at the club. If I was his agent, I'd be telling him to get the fuck out asap, while he still has a sound reputation and before Arteta ruins his career.

What, do you know that his agent was telling him to join Villa, or you just heard that Villa were interested in him? Big difference Nd sorry, but you’ve no idea what his agent said to him.
As for patience, he’s gonna need the patience of a saint, because if he didn’t can’t get into the side in front of Xhaka in advanced centre mid, then Arteta clearly doesn’t fancy him too much. The boy is a real talent imo and I’ve no idea what he’s done to upset Lego Head, because he’s never let us down on the pitch.

Re: other matches this weekend
All hail Mik Arteta, the destroyer of careers. After ruining the careers of Martinelli and Saliba, he has now set his sight on ESR
.
Jokes apart, you do wonder how ESR and to some extent Vieira gets into the first 11 at this moment in time. Vieira is relatively inexperienced and had kind of a breakout season/half a season at Porto last year. I don't expect Vieira to push for a starting place this season because he will take time adjusting to the physical demands of the PL. He will probably play in EL and cup games and get some substitute appearance in the league.
ESR on the other hand , you would have expected him to be a starter. He obviously had a brilliant first half of the season last year and then his form dipped. The issue with ESR is that he is competing with Martinelli and Odegaard to get into the first 11 and you just don't see those 2 being dropped given the start they have had this season.
Can he play the position that Xhaka is playing? He probably can though he is right footed and Arteta seems to prefer a left footer at that position. If I recall correctly, we have played with Odegaard, ESR, Martinelli and Saka in starting 11 a couple of times last season and it didn't really work, albeit one of those games was at City. Also shoe horning your best 11 players into the first team doesn't necessarily make you a good team. ESR will get games this season, it's a long campaign with EL and cup games and since he is not expected to go to the world cup, he should be fresh for the second half of the season and will get starts in the league as well. It is upto him then to perform like we know he can and make himself indispensible. Arteta has shown that anyone who performs well will get a continued run in the side, Martinelli and Saliba are good examples.
As for the suggestion that ESR may look to move to get more playing time, he will probably need to move to a lesser club because he will not be a guaranteed starter in any of the top 6 teams even if they want to sign him.

Absolutely ridiculous. Four games into a season where they have won one and lost to us, City and the dippers. Football is fucking stupid.

Yup. Unless something went in the background between him and the owners?Perryashburtongroves wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 8:36 amAbsolutely ridiculous. Four games into a season where they have won one and lost to us, City and the dippers. Football is fucking stupid.

I've always hated the chav/scum model of knee jerk sack the manager, buy a new manager, sack the manager, buy a new manager. But equally I've seen us go to the other end of the stupidity scale by hanging onto Wenger for ten years too long....

You have to ask though if there was an issue between the cardigan botherer and the owners why let him start the season? If no issue, then it's crazy sacking him after four games.

Re: other matches this weekend
Parker's comments post the Victims drubbing may have played a part where he seemed to suggest that they were ill equipped for the PL.
Teams like Bournemouth and Norwich are happy to be yo yo teams. Not interested in investing to stay in the league and are happy to go down only to be promoted again.

Losing 9-0 gets you the sack but losing 8-2 and 6-0 gets you a contract extension. Fucking criminal how that prick stayed in a job so long.DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 9:25 amYup. I can never understand this received wisdom idea that ESR dipped in the second half of the season. Up until his injury, he was the most consistent performer in the side and top scorer, despite being a midfielder (and not always starting). After returning from injury, he didn't get a run of games and was coming off the bench most of the time, so I'd expect him to struggle to make the same impact. Besides, it's hard to think of any player who was performing well in the second half of last season. Whether a move would be to a lesser club, or not, if he continues to be a bit part player at the Arsenal...and getting a run out in the cups isn't enough...then he needs to move on or his career will be damaged. I'd hate to see him go and know we'd live to regret it, but if he isn't being picked, then I'd advise him to go.
It seems to me that Arteta (just like Wenger), has favourites and holds players to a variety of standards. Some have to be exceptional to be a guaranteed pick, some can be bang average or worse. As for the bit I've highlighted in red...I give you Granit Xhaka. Kind of explodes your theory, don't you think? Also, you're actually having to wonder whether ESR would outperform Xhaka in an advanced role?? Blimey. He'd outperform Xhaka in any role, let alone attacking centre mid and if Arteta plays Xhaka simply because he's left footed, then he's dafter than I thought. He'd be better finding the first left footed bloke over Hackney Marshes if that's the criteria.

Don't feel sorry for Scott Parker FFS, they've already given him his job back at Century21!

There’s been a shit load of niggle in the Leeds Everton game, very enjoyable.
Could be a massive brawl at any second. Great stuff.
