Chelsea fire sale

Post by 26may1989 »

So, Scolari reckons he's going to need to pare down the Chavs' squad from 32 to 23-25 (http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2008 ... mierleague).

Are there opportunities for us? Yes, I know the old line about "Why would we take our rivals' rejects", but frankly that's crap. Wenger (like Fergie) knows how to get the best out of a player, and there are definitely some players in the Chelsea squad who are regularly overlooked and who could do very well for us. If Chelsea are going to try to clear the decks a bit, they could also be gettable at relatively affordable prices.

First up for me would be Shaun Wright-Phillips. He should have come to us from City in the first place, but he could still do something special in a red and (slightly) white shirt.

And Alex could be a great option for us at centre back (assuming Carvalho stays).

Yes SWP sure but if he is available at the right price I would have Sidwell too!

Apart from that I do not think there is much there that would benefit us when you look at the other obvious candidates that will be going such as Bouhlarouz etc.

Ignoring carvalho and essien, who we all know the chavs would never sell to us, the only other players I would be interested in would be swp and bridge (if he was willing to be back up for clichy). I do think though that shevchenko would score more goals for us that he does with them *word censored*

Essien of course would be absolutely brilliant....but it won't happen.

Could Sidwell play in the Flamini role? One of the few players that Wenger has actually said he'd have back.

I agree but the problem with cudicini, swp and sidwell is that they have all showed themselves to be motivated by money by moving to chavski. Wenger knows this and would never buy a player motivated by money (then again he did buy 120k per week ade  )
