The other bullshit narrative being peddled out is that Mason spent 3 minutes checking the original Pinnock header (either for offside or a foul on Gabriel, take your pick cos both are being offered up  ) that he felt pressure to make a decision.

How many times have we been told that the amount of time isn't considered an issue as long as the correct outcome is arrived at.

Brentford deserved something from that game without a doubt, they played equally well as we played poorly, but that isn't a factor in whether the offside not given is a factor and a relevant talking point.
Totally agree Clummo
If he's panicking under pressure and that affects his ability to do his job properly, he is evidently psychologically unfit to continue in this role. Sack him.

Google Lee Mason VAR errors. His charge sheet makes Charles Bronson look like Mother Teresa.

The fact that he keeps coming back from grievous errors is worrying from an integrity point of view. He had to retire from reffing but is still allowed to control VAR. Something not right about this. If you make this many serious mistakes how are you still in a job??

We know why don’t we.
Everything I do in my job is checkable by my manager, for audit purposes, they can see every minute of the day what I have done.

VAR must be recorded ? for training / feedback purposes, so there must be a record of what actions were taken, what was looked at and potentially what wasn’t.

Somebody already mentioned it needs to be overseen by an independent body not Mike Dean or Howard Webb or whoever is charge.

So significant errors were made - the twat needs sacking

With “football” being called and run as business now,how long will it be before a club or player actually puts in a true industrial grievance against VAR and the fools that run it,what’s to stop a player relegated over an incorrect VAR decision claiming lost earning/potential lost earnings,or a club doing the same,

We should absolutely refuse to take part in any game where Lee Mason has any involvement at all. We should be telling the Premier League that after two occasions this season where VAR mistakes have been made and cost us points, we expect accountability and him to be sacked with immediate effect. This is the new made a mistake with the red card thing. Makes fuck all difference after the event. Sack the bald cûnt now.

Clubs probably have a gentleman’s agreement not to involve courts and lawyers etc, but if a team gets relegated due to VAR “error” why not sue to reclaim lost income / earnings.

I think this needs something firmer from a regulatory perspective. We need a right of recourse beyond an apology. If referees do not follow very strict rules on VAR I think we need someone sat independently above them. If two VAR can miss two offsides and fail to follow procedure I would say this is a legal/civil case. I work in finance. If I make a mistake that leaves someone out of pocket, I don’t get to just apologise. The Bank compensates the loss. If the Bank won’t do anything the ombudsman will correct the wrong. We cannot have a multi million pound sport being governed by idiots in a portakabin with no consequence other than an apology. It doesn’t work that way in real life and nor should it in sport.

I was 100% against var before it came in, and I am even more against it now - the problem is that var suggests a level of perfection/competency that it will NEVER deliver and that it partially because you still have incompetent people running the system. If it were up to me I would scrap var in the morning and when mistakes/fcuk ups like yesterday happen we can all pass them off as human error and move on, but to bring in a system that delays the games and still cant get it right ?? Fcuk that

Btw we arent the only club getting screwed over by var (wolves against victims in cup was a bigger disgrace imo), and this conspiracy theory against us is imo a tad embarrassing

This I agree with, and I dont mean money either.

A few years ago my youngest lad had his appendix out and during the op the surgeon perforated his bowel and didnt discover it for FOUR days and he almost died - people at the time told us that we should have brought the hospital to court over what happened but our stance then as it is now is what would that serve ? A pay out would have been arranged but that doesnt punish the people responsible and only takes money out of a failing health system. People who make the mistakes have to be held accountable and punished in some way otherwise how will they learn ? Send lee mason down to non league for a while and show that incompetence will not be tolerated

Two people in a room were instructed to check for a possible offside and we’re meant to believe in the space of 60 seconds they both forgot to do it :coffeespit:

Still I suppose 13 Mcallister’s forgot to bring Kevin to Paris for Christmas that time so shit happens.

I’ve thought for a while that there is an issue with the age of refs. The profile of refs in their 40s and in Mason and Riley’s case 50s is not right. Early 40s fine. Late 40s and upwards not acceptable. There is for me a clear correlation between older refs and errors. You also have a scenario here where refs who have retired are being kept on by their mates in order to eek out a few more years of salary. Because now they are professional what would they be employed as on retirement?? Mason is 51. He thinks he can do the office job equivalent of reffing for a few years until he retires. Well this has to stop. The cosy old boys club has to be crushed and we have to improve standards. We have one of the best leagues in Europe. Why don’t we bring in the best refs? Quite simple in my view. We just go out and get the best in the world. Pay enough and they will come.

Without VAR, I reckon the linesman would have flagged. Human error is making a mistake with an offside in real time or not being in the right position to give a penalty or see if the ball has crossed the line. Human error is not an explanation for not seeing an offside on a TV screen which you can zoom into, replay the action as many times as you need, draw automatic lines to check for offside, all whilst being sat in a room miles away from the ground and under absolutely no supporter pressure at all. That isn't human error, that's professional negligence, incompetence or corruption. There has to be a consequence. He has to be sacked.

I did wonder why no flag went up in the whole move. Looked quite clear cut to me in the ground. It also wasn’t a free kick in the first place. Also really clear cut.

I suggest everybody just move on. Not because it's the right thing to do but because nothing will be done about it. There is a standard British response to these things, be it social workers, police or school board scandals......"Root & branch investigation, lessons have been learned, structures put in place so that this never happens again"

Until the next time............
