I was then off on holiday, relaxing in Corsica and waiting for some rare positive transfer news to arrive. My mate texted me and said "We've signed Silvestre". I was totally fucking stunned and hoping against hope that there might be another footballing Silvestre somewhere...but obviously realising what the old clown had fucking done....I texted back "What, Mikael Silvestre??!". My mate never forgot that and used to piss himself.
I can also recall that a journo questioned the signing, especially given the big name build up that Wenger had given it and again, Wenger turned nasty. Tosser.

Gotta dig that Wenger bingo card out SteveO, I need to see it again. You've just reeled off another few pearlers. I'll never know how he managed to get away with it for all those years, it would absolutely mystify me. I've got a lot of clients in the City that are highly, highly intelligent men (super top quality you could say ), but amongst those that are Gooners, it was hard to find one that felt as strongly about him as most of us on here felt. In fact, most would think my rants were over the top and retained that notion that we were about to come good.
Without getting it too out of context, it used to give me quite an insight into the human psyche. When you read about Nazi Germany, Mao's China, Pol Pot's Cambodia etc, you wonder how intelligent people could buy into the ideology (because rest assured, many did) and then you see how intelligence isn't necessarily a guard against propaganda and group think. We need a new CB. Ideally a starting CB to replace Gabriel. Push Gabriel to the bench (if not sell him) and have him compete with the Polish lad. That Korean fella from Napoli looks the bollocks, rated at £40m (Kim Min-jae).
We know that Xhaka isn’t going anywhere so there’s no point dreaming, but it’s clear Partey isn’t up to it. We need a new CM, defensive minded (and not brain dead, like Xhaka).
A winger to cover Saka, so the boy doesn’t have to play every game. And we need to have two CFs. Ballogun and Jesus.

We’ve got enough key positions to sign without getting rid of White as well. He’s been very good at right back this season and can cover at centre back too if needed.
