The summers of Suarez and Higuain that ended with Sanogo and Park, those were the days my friend :barscarf:

Fuck me, what wonderful days they were. Wasn't it Gervinho from Lille instead of Eden Hazard?

It's easy to forget some of the absolute dross we signed in the Old Fraud's last 12 years, but I reckon that a comprehensive list of the names would leave you as a quivering wreck.

We all knew that it would take years to recover from old wanker's decade plus of damage, but I was hoping that this season might have seen us finally emerging. Given the last 3 weeks, I'm having my doubts. :(
Drogba and Zlatan up front with Ronaldo playing just off them....Yaya Toure running the midfield. That was the best Nearly Signed team in our history. Luckily we managed to get Chamakh and Park instead, with Denilson and Walcott instead

Ah yes, but we couldn’t sign a decent centre mid, because we couldn’t “kill” Denilson.

Am I imagining things, or did we sign Benzema on a few occasions?
Oh and when is Mexes joining...must be sometime soon, surely. He can come to us with Rabiot.
Benzema, Loic Remy and Yann m'Vila still undergoing their medicals mate

Yes, of course, can't hurry those type of things.

M'Vila....that's one I'd forgotten. :)

Still, never mind, we didn't quite manage to sign Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Utd, but we did manage to get Theo on the right wing instead. We also taught Fergie a lesson by paying through the nose and pipping him to Aaron Ramsey's signature. Happy days.

We really pulled Fergie's pants down by signing Silvestre and pairing him up with Squillachi at centre half. We sold them that old duffer Van Persie instead! Halcyon days from the man who'd worked 30 years in football

What was even more infuriating about selling them RVP was that Wenger told Fergie that he would win them the league!! I mean, what the absolute fuck??!

As for Silvestre, I remember it had been the usual non event transfer window and the Fraud comes out with the line that he'd be announcing a big signing the following week. I was then off on holiday, relaxing in Corsica and waiting for some rare positive transfer news to arrive. My mate texted me and said "We've signed Silvestre". I was totally fucking stunned and hoping against hope that there might be another footballing Silvestre somewhere...but obviously realising what the old clown had fucking done....I texted back "What, Mikael Silvestre??!". My mate never forgot that and used to piss himself.

I can also recall that a journo questioned the signing, especially given the big name build up that Wenger had given it and again, Wenger turned nasty. Tosser.

The sale of RvP was for "footballing reasons" remember. Honestly, 10 years later I find myself sat here chuckling away but back in the day, the old c.unt was driving me to the edge of my sanity. Squillachi and Silvestre, Park, Chamakh, Sanogo - and all he said was "we work tirelessly, night and day, scouting every player in the world.....but we are only interested in top, top, super quality"

:barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

Then I'd come on here and Red Member was telling us that Djourou was an excellent centre back! They say time's a healer :D

I'll tell you what SteveO, the sheer fact that we can remember all the quotes virtually verbatim, shows how fucking deep the wounds were. Doesn't take much to open up the scars. I thought I was bad, but your powers of Wenger recall, all the crap players and the "almost signed" players, are off the scale.

I'm not sure whether digging this stuff up is therapeutic, or is bad for the mental health.

Was alive and well in Asia even when most of sane mind here were bringing the Wenger Out banners. Some of those pictures were amazing- people holding up little miniature figures of the old fucker and even bringing framed photographs to the pre season friendlies.

Retro - I think we had a Wenger bullshit bingo card back in the day. The free square in the middle was "Overall I believe that" and I think we made up to 20 odd squares lol. Will try and dig that one out just for shits and giggles. From memory all the old classics with special circumstances and ze handbrake were on it. Dropped little bit physically, great mental strength, bit jaded, I'm sorry he did not cost 30m etc etc. Fuck me that last one was about Holding! The ghost of Wenger still haunts our defence :D

I was surprised that the AKB didn't turn up at the stadium and commit mass suicide, Jonestown style, when he was sacked. They were seriously cultists...loons.

Gotta dig that Wenger bingo card out SteveO, I need to see it again. You've just reeled off another few pearlers. I'll never know how he managed to get away with it for all those years, it would absolutely mystify me. I've got a lot of clients in the City that are highly, highly intelligent men (super top quality you could say  ), but amongst those that are Gooners, it was hard to find one that felt as strongly about him as most of us on here felt. In fact, most would think my rants were over the top and retained that notion that we were about to come good.

Without getting it too out of context, it used to give me quite an insight into the human psyche. When you read about Nazi Germany, Mao's China, Pol Pot's Cambodia etc, you wonder how intelligent people could buy into the ideology (because rest assured, many did) and then you see how intelligence isn't necessarily a guard against propaganda and group think. The Cult of Wenger.

Careful, or I’ll go all Sid on you.

Worrying really to realise the scars that the old fucker left on the likes of me and SteveO. For those that could see it clearly (you could too Augie) it was watching someone actively destroying something you loved, while telling the world he was the good guy with good intentions.

Trust me, I’d often wish that I was like the naive, soppy bastards that bought all his lies and believed he would lead us to world domination. They must have been a lot happier than me.

Anyway, it’s proving quite cathartic to vent like this, but enough. You’re right, back to transfer news.

We need to make this summer window count if we want to improve on this season. As some have said already, this summer will determine if we replicate Liverpool of recent years, or ourselves in 2016.

We need a new CB. Ideally a starting CB to replace Gabriel. Push Gabriel to the bench (if not sell him) and have him compete with the Polish lad. That Korean fella from Napoli looks the bollocks, rated at £40m (Kim Min-jae).

We know that Xhaka isn’t going anywhere so there’s no point dreaming, but it’s clear Partey isn’t up to it. We need a new CM, defensive minded (and not brain dead, like Xhaka).

A winger to cover Saka, so the boy doesn’t have to play every game. And we need to have two CFs. Ballogun and Jesus.

We need a huge fucking clear out too.

This is a list of defenders signed by the basque one since he became manager -

ben white
gabriel
tomiyasu
jakub kiwior
cedric soares
pablo mari
zinchenko
nuno tavares
auston trusty (that was a new one on me :? )

How confident would you be with this regime signing proper defenders ?

Other than Zinchenko i'd clear out everyone on that list. Ben White is ok although there's something odd about him.

We’ve got enough key positions to sign without getting rid of White as well. He’s been very good at right back this season and can cover at centre back too if needed.
