Signing Rice is not a gamble, he's an excellent player, only 24 and will get exponentially better playing at a top team (us) rather than Wet Spam. In 3 to 4 years time, he'll probably be worth 150m plus. In my opinion, he'd be the best signing since Sol Campbell. Even if he didn't look that great, we'll still be able to sell for what we pay for him because he is
A) A very good player, proven
B) Young
C) English
D) Experienced premiership player
We can dick around with £30-50m players and it will keep us in the fight for top 4.
If we want to win something meaningful.....ie: not just the FA Cup or league cup, then we need to recruit on a different level!
We need three 80-100m players to get us on the next level realistically unless we can pull off another couple of magical youngsters for pocket money...... Not sure that is likely to happen to be honest.

But why would you want to pay £100million plus £200K a week for Rice if you could get two foreign players as good as or better than him for the same price?
Personally I really don't rate Rice. For me he is average to goodish on occasion. He has demonstrated his ability to be average in the PL. Thats different to being "PL-proven" in my book. Will average improve us?
But as I said previously he might be better with us than he is with the shammers. But for me it's not worth the risk if Baldy Racoon Features is sticking to this rumored £150 million.
