I know it's an old transfer, but just been reminded it's 22 years since our of nowhere Sol signed for us. One of the best signings we ever did, and to get one over those lot up the road was epic!

One of those where were you when you heard the news moments!

He was a quality player and it was hilarious how bent out of shape the scum were!

But just a shame Sol was such an arsehole. His arrogance and self belief are fucking mental. He genuinely considers himself as one of the greatest footballers in the world.

Still, he was a key part of the 02 Double and the Invincibles so while he'll never be a Bergkamp in my heart of hearts, I'll always have a soft spot for mad bastard Sol. 8)

I was working in our family pub and we had a funeral crowd that day and the euphoria I felt that day was off the charts

Tbf I remember reading arsenal news review a few days previously and he had said that we were in for him and that the number 23 was being kept for him cos he wanted the same number beckham had at madrid

He must have been psychic then, because Beckham didn’t join Real Madrid until 2003.

Granit Xhaka is edging closer to Bayer Leverkusen transfer. Understand a €25m fee has been agreed. 30 y/o has just 12 months remaining on his deal so great business for #AFC

Fuck me, if they're prepared to pay that for him, I'd literally push him into their arms, grab the money and run so fast that all you'd see is a cloud of dust.

As long as he definitely goes (which I'm not allowing myself to believe until he's actually signed for Leverkusen or whoever), then the big fan fare about his end of season couple of goals and all the hyped bollocks about what a great season he had, will have worked in our favour for the transfer fee. Some will say it's not a lot of money for a 29 yr old with a burgeoning reputation, but for someone who would pay another club to take the useless oaf, 25 m is a fucking miracle.

My remaining constant worry is that the same hype will encourage Arteta to keep him. :worried:

I also just checked the Arsenal news review archives, and there isn’t any story there about reserving a number, only that we were interested in buying him but Inter Milan remained favourite.

It seems that the memory can do funny things.

I thought it was him having a premonition of the number of times in the future that he would say he was passed over for football management jobs

No no Retro I think you have misunderstood. It is Arsenal that is paying them plus a yellow reflective jacket.
