BBC: Arsenal have rejected a £30m bid from Ligue 1 side Monaco for their 22-year-old American striker Folarin Balogun. (90min)

Instead, Arsenal are considering offering Balogun and Japan full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu, 24, to Inter Milan in exchange for their Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella, 26. (Calciomercato - in Italian)

South american strikers are very hard to judge when it comes to compatibility to playing in english league, and we have seen some strikers with great scoring records elsewhere absolutely flop in england. That being said, I wouldnt be adverse to the club shelling out big money (or the above two players + cash) for Lauturo Martinez - good scoring record and has a bit of an edge to him too 8)

Apparently the plan was to give Balogun game time in pre season and assess him over the summer Augie but he picked up an ankle injury either in that all star game or just after so he’s been unavailable.

When the story first came out I called bullshit on it but turns out it’s true. Pity as I’d have like to seen him in a few games.

That's why they had him (Balogun) training one to one with one of the fitness coaches on the American pre-season tour; which was the cause of speculation & rumours by many about him being left out because there was an offer in for him. :proudtosay:

I reckon you might be right. If he stays he will always be "loyal, the guy that put his club ahead of his own career" but if he goes he has to deliver or he will be "Fat Tongue the guy that was found out at a bigger club".

I hope he goes, because they are fucked without him.

DB I actually reckon he'll sign a new contract, he's obviously not interested in winning trophies,it's all about him wanting to be top goal scorer in the PL ever,

He'll go - 100% convinced of that. I suspect he wanted to go to the manc scum as first choice, but when it became obvious that levy wouldnt deal him to another english club, then I reckon he thought fcuk these c.unts I'll go abroad so. Have to be honest there was a part of me starting to think that if levy wouldnt agree a fee with bayern, then next year to stick it to levy fat tongue would do a sol and join north london's finest on a free :barscarf:

I dont like agreeing with this c.unt, but I have expressed similar concerns as to how signing raya will affect the dressing room dynamics within the squad

When Fulham are yo-yoing Mitrovic scores shit loads of goals in the championship but there’s a huge drop off in his numbers when he’s back in the PL.

We’d create a lot more opportunities for him for sure so I’d expect him to post decent numbers for us but I still think he’s a tier below where we need to be looking at.

Toney scored 20 in the league last year, it wouldn’t be out of the question that he’d score 30 with us and those are the types of numbers that would make us a serious threat to city.

Where Mitrovic would have the advantage is the aerial presence he’d give us in the box, the option to chuck it in when we’re losing or drawing late on is something we badly lack. Toney scores a few headers to be fair to him but I think he’s the same height as Jesus so he’s not rally that focal point in the box when firing in crosses.

He’ll have 18 months left on his contact when the ban is up in January….that’s the time to strike, throw Eddie into the deal for good measure.

I’m actually surprised with their dire need for a striker that Brentford (or West Ham for that matter) haven’t been in for Balogun - very strange.

A 22 year old who scored 21 times in France last season would normally be the focus of a lot of attention from clubs with big bids going in but instead he’s only got shite like Monaco and inter in pursuit making piss poor offers.

He is only 5ft 10"   I had him pegged as 6ft 2" at least

Again I will say that I too would prefer Toney, but there is no gettiong away from fact that signing him in January could be too late, and especially when jesus injured already (AGAIN)

I am baffled as to why Balogun hasnt had much of a chance in pre season - yes it is only the french league but the kid scored a lot of goals last season and if he doesnt get a chance with us, all we can go on is what he done last season. Years ago you could argue that a goal scorer is a goal scorer regardless of what league or country they are playing in, but I think we have seen enough examples in recent seasons to see that sometimes the stats (number of goals) dont tell the whole story. Too late now I know, but he should have got some pre-season starts to see if he is good enough or not, but I suspect the whole reason why he wasnt given a chance is that we are banking on getting in a wad of money for him to go towards our purchases

He isn’t 5’10” Augie  , he’s 6’2”.

Despite what Mantis says, I rate the guy. Would I rather have Toney, maybe, but even then I’m not certain. Mitrovic is a beast and can play too. He’s also a finisher as you say.

To compare him with Giroud as Mantis did, is beyond harsh. Giroud was absolute pony for years with us (I’m amazed how his record has stood up since he left).

We’ll never know, but I think with the service we’d provide, Mitrovic would get us 20 league goals a season. I’d happily take Toney, but as you’re all saying, it’s gonna be too late come January.

Anyway, it’s all academic, as Arteta won’t be adding a striker anytime soon. He’ll stick with misfiring Jesus and Havertz no matter what.
