With Havertz, I’m firmly in the suck it and see camp, gonna sit back, give him a chance and see how it all unfolds, but to paraphrase from the Big Lebowski, well you know, that’s just like my opinion, man.

It’s not like he’s been Willian levels of awful so far, but to play devils advocate for a minute, it’s not the fact that his 3 games in an Arsenal shirt have been a bit meh that’s gotten people restless, it’s his 3 years in English football.

That’s an important distinction to make when people are being accused of getting on his back so early in his Arsenal career. Like I said I’m giving him time and am pretty convinced he’ll come good but can definitely understand why others are far less optimistic.

Isn’t it fucking great that we can all get along 8)
When have we ever taken a Chelsea reject and made him better?

France winger Nicolas Pepe, 28, could leave Arsenal for an unnamed Saudi side before the Pro League transfer window closes on 7 September.

Arsenal considered terminating Pepe's contract on Friday, one year before the end of his deal, after a proposed move to Besiktas fell through.

We’re definitely on a shit run of chav players no doubt but in reality just because the likes of helmet head and Willian were shite doesn’t have any bearing on whether Havertz will be a success or not. Sometimes it’s just easy to contextualise things like that to try and make sense of it.

Thing is as much as Arteta definitely has his flaws and other foibles that seem to have got people firmly against him already, he has improved all those players capable of improving (*)

So I am hopeful that what he saw in Havertz can be brought out and that Arteta can indeed work his expertise at improving players on Havertz, time will surely tell.

Also those who are already condemning Havertz (and / or Arteta) will always find something to criticise in someone ie: Arteta and / or Havertz regardless of much they change & improve, simply because they cannot or will not admit that they were not right.

WTFK (Who The fuck Knows). :?

Banter Bob, the guy who played a huge part in torpedoing two consecutive seasons sold for a million quid - a million fucking quid - for a lad we placed all our league title aspirations on in the run in last season.

You could get a million quid for an under 14 academy player these days FFS

OG forum favourite off to some Spanish pubbers on loan, with no obligation to buy.

Lakonga off to the worst team in premier league history, again on loan.

Travares off on loan to Forest, again with no obligation.

Our most prized asset, attracted fuck all suitors and ended up going for a paltry 35 million quid to the team that finished 6th in the French farmers league last season.

Meaning the easiest bit of business we did all summer was selling our beloved Granit with the minimum of fuss for 25 million quid.

Farking hell.

I’m sorry he didn’t cost 55 million quid said the great economist.

Sold for a million in his prime at 27 years of age

Whilst I am in the negative camp regarding Havertz I think you are right in that he should now be given some time at the club.
Maybe review again at Christmas

There were many on here criticising Odegaard during his loan spell with us

I could see there was a player there, the technique and ability on the ball - then in one match I decided to watch him closely.
He was making great runs into space, some dangerous positions but nobody passed the ball to him :banghead:

Maybe at that time the players were too much of a clique ?

I do get that the big difference was that he was new to the Premier League whereas Havertz has been here 3 seasons.

Right now I’m just not seeing it, other than a great pass to Martinelli at home v Fulham, who dithered and took too long when he was 1v 1 and had space to really attack the defender.
If he had got a goal or an assist already it may have settled him down

For the good of the team, just hope he does the business soon.

Absolutely, not only would it make him less criticisable but add to his popularity by helping us to defeat the MancFilth.

(Edit) AND

Boost his confidence.

Honestly the defending of havertz is taking rose tinting to a whole new level on here, and I wonder if it is in some way tied in to our performances last season, cos for the most part the one's who are defending him are the one's sticking up for pep's cone boy fcuking about with a team that came second last season - in other words those defending legohead are same one's defending the german dud :rubchin:

I get the argument that the chavs have been in a mess of sorts for past 3 seasons, but lest we forget they won a champs league final in that time - he scored the winner in the final but it was the only champs league goal he scored that season. Yes he has had 3 different managers there, but he has been ever present practically and hasnt shined for any of them - what are the chances of a good player playing in 3 different teams/systems and being no better than average in any of them ? Surely somewhere along the line the question needs to be asked if it is the player not the system that is the problem :rubchin: It also needs to be acknowledged that his stats at leverkusen werent exactly lighting the place up either. I think fans are entitled to look at him and judge him on the 3 seasons for the chavs and already write him off after 4 competitive games for us cos the only thing different is the shirt on his back - we are in a league now where there is more pressure on new signings to hit the ground running than in previous era's, and whether that is fair or not the reality is that right now we need to revert to a system and line up that worked last season, and if he needs bedding in gradually then do it in league cup or at least leave it until we get some momentum going cos right now this team and havertz is killing the positive vibe from last season

While signing crap from the chavs doesn’t necessarily equal all future signings from them being crap, I think that perhaps you are missing a significant point Rodders.

We and the chavs are direct rivals and it’s highly unlikely that they would sell us anyone that they rated. We didn’t make an aggressive bid and sign Havertz against their wishes, they were perfectly happy to offload him…and they must have been ecstatic to get £65m for him. I’d suggest that this is why our signings from them have been poor.

Alarm bells ought to ring if a direct rival considers a player surplus to requirements and if Arteta believes that he sees something that 3 years at Chelsea hasn’t uncovered, then he better be fucking right, because there’s nowhere to hide if he’s wrong.

We aren’t Bournemouth, or Wolves, or Fulham and should be very wary of signing a player that a top 4 rival deems not good enough.
