The Next Big Thing...
The Next Big Thing...
Wenger has been bringing in youth players from all over the world the last few years and we probably have the strongest youth academy in the world now....or at least we're among the very best one's.
Most of these players are obviously not gonna make it at the Arsenal but Fabregas, Djouro, Hoyte, Senderos, Aliadiare are examples of players that have been playing for the youth and reserve team for a season or so and then made the step up to the first team. I'd expect more and more players from the youth academy to get in to the first team over the next few years. It looks like Bendtner is going to be the next one and I reckon we might have a couple of more nice surprises this season.
Merida, showed some outstanding skills lasts season for the reserves and the under 18s, I also think he could bring something different to our game with his long range passing ability.
Traore, Showed he's a quality player during our CC run last season. He seems to lack Clichy's fighting spirit at times but on the other hand he's a lot better on the ball than Clichy and I think we all know what Wenger find most important so if Clichy gets injured I think he'll find it difficult to get his place in the team back.
Gilbert, With 3 or possibly 4 right backs ahead of him in the pecking order he will probably find it difficult to get a look in but he looked extremely promising when he played 05/06 and did better than Hoyte did when he first came into the team in my opinion so if he manage to get a chance to play a few games I reckon there's a good chance he'll grab.
What do you think…any others?

Traore impressed me in the DB10 testimonial, so I've kept my eye on him since. He looks like a good prospect.
Saturday was the first time I had watched (or indeed, heard of) Barazite. He looked like one of the better players on the pitch. Good luck to the both of them. I've heard Merida is going to be the business, but he didn't do much on Saturday to impress me. As far as Randall goes, I was looking for a good performance from him at Barnet, but it didn't really come. He was alright, but I get the impression he's another David Bentley (reckons he's a Charlie Big Bollocks).
As far as Bendtner goes, I have never watched him play in the flesh (maybe in the Carling Cup - I can't remember...) so I couldn't possibly comment on him.

I saw Barazite a couple of times for the reserves last season and I agree he looks a very good footballer but got the body of a 12 year old. Hopefully he's just a late developer.tonysaunders wrote:Traore impressed me in the DB10 testimonial, so I've kept my eye on him since. He looks like a good prospect.

If Bentley didn't make it at the Arsenal I can't really see how Randall would...mind you, I'd rather see Randall getting a chance than Song playing.
I reckon Bendtner is gonna be a great player for us this season as long as he's get to play enough and Wenger let him do what he's good at.

I reckon Randall looked alright, he had a couple of real good long passes, a few shitty ones, in a couple of years i reckon we will be competing for a first team spot.
I also think Song is a good player, having watching him with charlton last season he did a great job.He gives us height strength and their coach even said that he is on Man U level. He is a defensive midfielder and was playing out of position in the game against Barnet.

I really hope this doesn't happen. If Wenger feels Merida should go out on loan I can see why but Spain is not the place to send him. The football is too different and if you look back over the last 5 or so years you will find players that have come to the Premiership from France or Holland usually prove to be far more succesful.

True...but don't forget we need players for the Carling cup as well if we gonna do that quadruple thsi seasonrebel gooner wrote:good point n13,, but u wouldnt want them playin reserve football whole season,, 2 very good prospects but thats all they r at the mo,, see wat there like in competitive league

Song looked great for Charlton, but has always looked poor when he's appeared in the Arsenal first team. Having watched him I just think he struggles at the pace we play and he gives the ball away too much. Charlton play at a much slower pace to us hence he looked a different player.
Bendtner has already proved with Denmark that he can be the real deal. So fingers crossed we could have ourselves another Arsene gem.

Saw Bendtner play for Birmingham against Ipswich last season, Brum were awful but he shone and was probably best player on pitch. Has strength pace amnd skill. Remember him holding ball up with back to goal turning his man and skipping through about 7 tackles before being brought down. This guy has serious potential to be a big star for us.
Don't forget Matt Connolly who is highly rated centre back just gone out on loan to Colchester.
