You should take the high moral ground like we do in Oireland and simply not qualify!

For once I actually agreed with Rat Faced Neville yesterday - he basically said in previous tournaments he picked the best players for the system he wanted...often at the expense of supposedly higher profile, more talented players. Examples would be the likes of Henderson and Phillips. For the first time now he is doing "a Sven" and trying to shoehorn in all the big name talents, almost as if he's shit scared of the consequences. Its like the whole Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham, Scholes thing all over again - if pick them all, surely it will work one day. Trent, Bellingham, Foden, Rice, Saka very clearly isn't working. You've taken Anthony Gordon who is a specialist wide player - why bother. You've taken Wharton who is a specialist deeper midfielder who probably has some of the best passing and ball retention skills out there. But, he's almost paralysed by the fear of "what will everyone say if I drop Foden or Bellingham". To be honest they were both as fucking useless as each other last night so take your pick. One of them won't like it - tough shit.augie wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 6:12 pmArsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2024 5:53 pmThat was a fucking shambles. Southgate is beyond woeful as a manager.
I agree but let me add that he is far from the only one - ferdinand can w**k himself silly all he likes about bellingham, but tonight he was as poor as he was in champs league semi finals and final. Rice was absolutely atrocious tonight - he was slow on the ball and his passing was shocking, I'm no fan of trent but at least he was passing forward, and if you drawing a game I dont know wtf would make you think that gallagher is gonna bring the creativity neededI was critical of saka in the run in for us, but I think he has looked dangerous in last two games and yet he keeps getting subbed

I agree Rice was awful too. Any coincidence that he's playing alongside someone who is totally unfamiliar with that role? He doesn't know whether he should be a 6 or an 8, covering back, pushing forward. Honestly its all over the place
To cap it all, supposedly the only left footed full back we've got in the whole country is Luke Shaw, and without him we'll carry on playing a right footed full back there. So the world's richest FA with its St George's Park 10 year project and some of the top academies in world football, can't produce a single left back. No Shaw, no left back?
Honestly, its a total shit show. Can't wait till they are out and its time for the next "root and branch" review of English football! What a waste of everyone's time

Agreed Rice was very poor as was all the team, at least for as long as I could bear to watch the drivel, but he was still brilliant for us for 95% of the season, as for Red Rum aka: Southgate of Wokingham he is totally out of his depth and should have been given the tin tack ages ago. I think he would be more fitted to managing the Ingerland Lesbians... Oooops!Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 4:27 pmThis will trigger a few people, but have to agree with augie and SteveO that Rice was dreadful yesterday. I was watching him and thinking that he was again the player that I didn't want us to buy last summer. It's never particularly easy to judge a bloke when he's a big fish in a small pond, as he was at West Ham, but whenever I saw him play for England, he always looked bang average and somewhat out of his depth at international level. It's why I didn't really want to sign him and thought that if we did, then he was worth no more than 40 odd million.
All that said, he went a long way to changing my mind last season and while £105 million was still too much, he brought something to the side that we had been missing for years. Anyone can have a bad game (although he was beyond bad yesterday) and it's no doubt a complete nightmare playing under St Gareth of Woke, in a side where every player seemed entirely clueless as to what the plan was and what he should be doing. I'm happy enough that we've got him, but for me, he needs someone alongside him that is truly top level...world class if you like. Unfortunately, that won't be what we get.
As for the game in general, what a fucking clueless borefest. Red Rum is in a job that's way beyond his pay grade and while I expect us to qualify from the group, it could be very embarrassing if we come up against a top side. We have a very good generation of players once again, but the FA always pick the wrong guy to manage them and this muppet is probably the worst yet. Still, he's a yes man who is fully on board with woke, so he's ticking all the right boxes....for the FA the football knowledge box is merely an after-thought.
"What's his managerial pedigree like?"
"Errr, absolutely pony boss."
"Oh well, never mind, he's good to his mum, laughs at himself for missing a Euro semi-final penalty and is fully behind the DEI agenda. Give him the job and don't dare sack him, because the woke activists will be outside screaming that we're far right."

It might sound too simple but for me I’ve always thought that England and certainly Scotlands problem is they just cannot keep possession of the ball.
You see Spain , Italy , German etc and it just looks natural.
You’ll be lucky to see Scotland string 5 or more passes together throughout 90 minutes and that’s no exaggeration!
Yeah to be honest mate I love KT and I even met him once but just can’t see him back in our team , predominately because of injury. (shame as you say)Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 5:49 pmscotgooner wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 5:32 pmWhat I like about these tournaments is when randomly certain countries look pretty good , enjoyed Romania the other night and Austria look pretty lively here!

Yes, I have to say Scot, I've watched both Scotland games and fuck me they're bad. As I was watching I was thinking that if you were to put the Scottish national team in the PL, they'd definitely be relegated. England have been crap, but Scotland have taken it to another level.
As an aside, I was keeping an eye on Tierney (poor sod injured again), because I always liked him, but I couldn't help think that he is simply not technically good enough to play in the current Arsenal side. I don't give Arteta a lot of credit, but maybe it shows that he's moved us on in the last 2 or 3 years?

You’re probably right that he’s not too technical but even for my younger age I’m pretty old school and I love the old way of playing , a fullback first of all who can defend (which KT absolutely can) and then being able to bomb forward directly and whip an accurate cross into the box which he also can.
What did piss me off is when some people said that liability clown zinchenko was a better player. No chance if you ask me!
Going to assume timber is our LB next year but if not then fuck me he has to buy one because KTs injuries and zinchenkos shiteness.
