ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I hope it hasn't done irrecoverable damage to the boy and that elsewhere he can build the career he looked capable of. I'll wish him nothing but good luck and won't be sorry if it bites Arteta in the arse.

Had to be something lost in translation by our Yankee cousins there!![]()
Or are we just looking for "cheap rejects from other clubs"?

Listen, Arteta and Edu are working 24 hours a day and I'm sorry that the reserve goalie at the Wolves isn't worth 50 million.
It is 50, but sadly thousand and not million.![]()

Marquinhos has returned to Brazil with Fluminense until January.
Another one who showed promise although I'd forgotten about him tbh.

Doesnt this back up what I am saying about cone boy and edu shopping habits where they are signing so many players that are not being kept beyond 18-24 months ? They really annoying thing is that he is offloading players who have got little or no chance to find their feet in the first team, but yet he continues to persevere with the portugese pussy who has got a ton of chances and looks as lightweight and useless today as he did on day one

I honestly cannot fathom the myth that our transfer business has been big success under these two

Not as a coach but as a guide in the Injuries and Rehabilitation Department he can find his way blindfold and on one leg around it.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Well so far this summer has been a resounding success! We've signed.... um.... a bloke that was already playing for us.
Looks possible we will also be offloading The Feather and Tierney and Nelson and Ramsdale to add to the departed Tavares, Lokonga, Biereth, Elneny and Cedric.
Correct me if I'm wrong but we already had a light squad both in numbers and quality so all we've managed is to reduce the numbers and add no quality.
We still need a striker, a centre mid and possibly a goalkeeper. Or did we manage to sign that 12 year old we were linked with?

Summers where there are tournaments on are very hard to do business cos most of the best players are away with their national teams. but it remains to be seen how many of our signings this summer were actually on international duty - I suspect less than 50% of our signings will have been playing in tournaments, and even players like Calafiori have been finished almost 3 weeks at this stage and we still cant conclude the deal
Some fans were against transfer windows closing early arguing that it gives foreign clubs an advantage, but personally I would support a smaller transfer window - pre season training camps and games are when new signings are supposed to bed in, but frequently we see more and more players signing late in the transfer windows and either thrown straight into a team where they are not familiar with the system, or they are held back because they are not up to speed (with fitness and/or tactics) and either way the team suffers.
I know that for any transfer negotiation to become successful you need 3 sides in agreement (buying club, selling club, player and agent), but given that premier league clubs earn money per point in the league, you have to question the wisdom of stalling deals haggling over a few million, when failing to win the first two or three league games could cost the buying club that same amount of money

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I would take it a step further. The summer transfer window should open the day after the league season ends, say 1st June, and close the day before the season starts. I would also scrap the January transfer window, so the squad you have at the start of the season is how you end the season. That would stop the likes of Cheaty buying up players during the season if they aren't sitting top by many points. I know that the bottom clubs would argue that it would affect them getting out of relegation zone, but generally bottom 3 at Xmas usually means it's all over anyway.augie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 9:52 amSummers where there are tournaments on are very hard to do business cos most of the best players are away with their national teams. but it remains to be seen how many of our signings this summer were actually on international duty - I suspect less than 50% of our signings will have been playing in tournaments, and even players like Calafiori have been finished almost 3 weeks at this stage and we still cant conclude the dealSome fans were against transfer windows closing early arguing that it gives foreign clubs an advantage, but personally I would support a smaller transfer window - pre season training camps and games are when new signings are supposed to bed in, but frequently we see more and more players signing late in the transfer windows and either thrown straight into a team where they are not familiar with the system, or they are held back because they are not up to speed (with fitness and/or tactics) and either way the team suffers.

Honestly I would happily pay £50m for Toney if the price has dropped that much - only problem is he is looking to join a club winning trophies and we are only on the cusp
