Watching a rerun of our title winner against the toffees at the glorious Highbury in 98 on SlySports.

How blessed I was to have been a supporter in that era, to have been at games like that one.

The difference between that era with its exciting fast aggressive play where players weren't afraid to drop the shoulder and take on their oppo number, where they tried risky passes to set up the runner, compared to the dire tedium of the modern stat-obsessed tippy tappy pass it sideways 5 yards to retain possession above all else and hardly ever take an oppo player on borefest....

Have not counted one dive in this match. Yeah I know there was one or two divers in the PL even back then but it was nowhere near the level of cuntiness it is at nowadays.

In those days no one gave a fuck about nonsensical fucking shit like our "out of possession" stats or being on the cusp of fucking anything.

Back in the day I was obsessed with Arsenal and the wider game of football. Now I despise so much about the game its unreal.

The modern game is all but dead to me. I struggle to be interested and it feels like what I imagine a failing marriage must feel like where you don't want the inevitable break up to happen and just hang on almost out of habit as much as anything else.

I too was watching that earlier and was gonna post something similar at the time - people talk about the current team and the improvements of the team, but I look at the team and I see no TA6, no PV4, No Bergkamp either in terms of quality or heart. From the current team none of our keepers are as good as seaman was, none of the full backs get in ahead of dixon and nutty, saliba would probably get in alongside TA6, none of the current central midfielders come close to PV4 and petit, none of the current strikers are better than anelka or wrighty, and anyone who thinks that odeargod threatens Bergkamp's place is deluded.

As I have said in the past, teams can only be the best in their own era, but that doesnt take away from the fact that the quality of football has dropped off so much in the last 25 years that any perceived improvements need to be measured against how low the current standards are

Moving out of Highbury was a massive step......i loved that place...it was the Arsenal, it was our soul...steeped in a rich history
Fuck me we fought and defended that place like it was our own home....bad days and good days
Looked around at all the fans celebrating at the time of going to a new stadium....now gentrified and full of daytrippers
