Like a Rolls Royce surrounded by Ladas.
Once he gets gametime, barring injury, he'll be at a big club again within two years max. And we will look back on a genuine one that got away.
Bang on DB. I was going to post exactly this.....don't tell Mantis
I sincerely hope that ESR goes on to have the stellar career that I believed was highly likely 3 years ago. Sadly, I can see that being at the Chavs, Utd, or Liverpool, because I doubt he'll be at Fulham too long. Good luck to him.
I can't believe how many people on here think that he's been sold because he isn't good enough. Arteta consistently damned him with faint praise when he was our best performing player and following his injury he was never afforded the chance to shine again. Of course, keeping him in the team would mean benching Odegaard.
To those that don't think that Arteta has his favourites and is genuinely moving ESR on because he's sub par, then all I'll say are the two names augie mentions above....Jesus and Zinchenko.
Hard to think of anyone on here that didn't think they'd both be gone this summer because they aren't good enough. Still, no need to worry about being good enough when you're one of Daddy's favourites.
What's the common thread with Odegaard, Zinchenko and Jesus? Yep, Lego Head bought them all and his ego won't allow him to admit they aren't up to scratch (I'm not including Odegaard in that, although I suspect that ESR might well prove to be the more effective player).
I knew jesus wasnt going anywhere and have continually said so on here, but I was 50/50 on zinchenko though - just cos some like to throw out itk bollox claiming that they were on way out doesnt make it true, and reading rumours that the cone boy has now switched his focus to signing a wide player (instead of a number 9) only shows how much bu!!shit it is
I dont want to get into slagging off jesus cos he works hard for the team and I give him credit for that, but honestly how hard is it to get an upgrade on him as a goalscoring striker ? We have wide players who can both score and create as good as anyone, but what we dont have is a poacher striker who will score 20+ league goals a season and who can make the difference is those tight games where chances are at a premium. Not a word of a lie but jesus and havertz wouldnt get into the team at citeeh, at the victims, at the geordies or at villa (for example), and yet we are supposed to believe that we can win the league with those two as our best striker options ??? Do me a favour
To be honest augie, I was going to say that you were the exception regarding those two leaving, but regulars on here ought to know that.
I'm normally up there with the cynicism, but even I thought that he'd move both on, especially Zinchenko, who he seemed to keep out of action following the Villa fiasco. Now looks like neither will go.
As you say, both Jesus and Havertz are second raters up front, but it's looking ominously as though they'll be our strike force and it's quite possible that Eddie will still be around.
There will be no excuses for Arteta if we don't sign a top level goal scorer and neither will there be if he signs a no mark and parades him as the answer.
Still no centre mid and no stories of Partey leaving, who was another I was sure would be gone, albeit two years too late. So, we could start the season with the same side, other than Calafiori, who I asume will play LB....if he can dislodge Zinchenko.
