The problem I see with it is had we voted it out of the PL it would still be used in CL, EL and international football so it would never truly be gone.

It was never going to be scrapped altogether, and should it had been the first contentious decision would have been blown up by television and it would be the same arguments from the other side.
It just needs a root and branch overhaul and taking out of the control of the terminally flawed PGMOL . The referee on the pitch needs to be the man in charge and VAR should only be used to rectify the clear and obvious mistakes .
That of course is what it set out to be before the mandarins in Stockley Park used it to be a protection racket to back up their mates.

This is or was the one and only opportunity that there will be to get rid of it. That ship has now sailed and it's here for good.

As A11 says it needs a complete overhaul. No 1 should be as they have done in Europe and have a different team from the incompetent refs running it.

Also, somewhere earlier in this thread I mentioned that in Turkey or Greece (can't remember and can't be arsed to look  ) they have started bringing in foreign VAR officials to rule out corruption in big games, you know like having the bloke from Salford running VAR for say the Arsenal v Cheaty scum and pretending it's a different city. :banghead: and then having a bus man's holiday in UAE with freebies :cussing:

Nice to see a major tournament implementing VAR with virtually no issues, offsides decided in seconds, nobody so far has "forgotten to draw the lines on"

Amazing what can happen when you actually want the technology to work isn't it

Still, I'm sure the dinosaurs running the English game will implement the pigs bladder tied up with a shoelace and tape for a crossbar by the start of next season

The imbeciles running the game would struggle to tie a shoelace

Given the most recent VAR and technology "involvement" (Scotland penno, Lukaku goals disallowed etc) in this tournament I'd have to disagree with you SteveO. I still think it is shit and is ruining the game. As Wrighty or Van Basten or someone said its now about millimetres and is ridiculous.

But if the shoelace is rainbow 🌈 coloured then that signifies significant progress

Very True Lefty... The thing is those running vAR in other leagues/countries seem to know what they are doing and make decisions incredibly quickly, whereas the utter ineptwankers in Prem and Championship not only take fucking ages, but very often get it Wrong.

From BBC:

VAR and Changes to Rules:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/ar ... kme410zjvo

There will be tweaks to handball, VAR and injury time, plus more.

BBC Sport looks at who, and what, is new and what we can expect in the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

..............................................................................................................................

The video assistant referee system will have a higher bar for intervening than before.

The "referee’s call" means that the VAR should only intervene if they can "see without any doubt the on-pitch official has made a clear mistake".

Otherwise the initial decision will stand. That means fewer stoppages for marginal decisions to be repeatedly re-watched.

"Let’s have the confidence to not be too forensic on our analysis," is what refereeing boss Howard Webb has said.

The Premier League Match Centre account, external on social media platform X will post "near-live" explanations of VAR decisions.

It plans to show more replays and explain decisions on the big screens in stadiums, too.

We will see a significant drop in stoppage time this season - because of a change in timing goal celebrations.

Until now time was added on for every second between the ball hitting the net and the kick-off being taken.

Now the clock will only be started after 30 seconds. So a game with six goals would have three minutes less of stoppage time.

Away from VAR, attacking players blocking or obstructing opposition players at a set-piece will be penalised more strictly.

Ben White was trending on social media with the suggestion the Arsenal defender's actions from corners will result in more opposition free-kicks.

The handball law will be relaxed a tad.

Players have been told by the Premier League they do not have to move with their arms rigidly by their sides or behind their backs.

The position of their arm or hand will be judged in relation to the movement of their body.

"We get a sense that we give too many handballs for actions that are quite normal and justifiable," said Webb.

"The guidance to officials this season is less is more. You will see fewer harsh handball penalties."

Meanwhile, a non-deliberate handball that leads to a penalty will no longer be an automatic booking offence.

During penalties the ball must be on or hanging over the centre of the penalty spot, rather than at any point on the spot.

..............................................................................................................................

Encroachment by players into the box when the penalty is taken will only be penalised if it has an impact.

That means if an opposition player has an impact on the kicker or prevents a goal or chance from a rebound.

If it is a penalty taker's team-mate, the encroachment is relevant if they impact or distract the goalkeeper, scores or creates a chance.

Ball boys and girls will be allowed to give a ball to a goalkeeper to take a restart, instead of the keeper having to pick it up off a cone.

The multiball system - picking the ball off a cone - will remain for outfield players.

One more tiny change - five substitutes can warm up at the same time on the touchline, up from three.

There will be a new ball this season, the Nike Flight, which is "built with Aerowsculpt technology with grooves debased into the casing, to allow air to travel seamlessly around the ball, delivering truer flight".

And there we have the paragraph which will be open to the usual incompetence and inconsistency from referees. One week, they'll over-rule something with absolutely no reason and the very next, they'll refuse to do anything because they'll claim that they can't get involved. How the fucking hell can they have a system which has cost millions but yet it so fucking bad and so horrendously mis-used? The whole "let's not be too forensic" quote is fucking disgraceful, it's basically that incompetent cúnt Webb saying "Stop having an opinion and using your own understanding of the game and knowledge of the laws of the game to point out when we make embarrassingly simple mistakes which in any other profession would lead to the sack. Stop holding us to account and let us go back to the days when it was easier for us to cheat and be corrupt." It doesn't fucking matter what they use or don't use because until they are better at the simple fucking job of knowing the laws of the game and applying them fairly and transparently, we'll just continue to see problem after problem and mistake after mistake. If you look at the simple facts of nearly all the controversial incidents that have cropped up with this shit since its introduction, the major issue, is the referees either cheating, lying or being fucking incompetent. They're the fucking problem, not the technology or the supporters or whoever fucking else. They are the worst performing professionals in any profession in Britain. No other industry with the possible exception of the police force, protects their own and covers up failure so fucking frequently. Chuck into all this, the fact that they've had fucking years to implement semi-automated offsides and they haven't got it ready for the start of the season. It's fucking pathetic. Starting the season with one set of video equipment and then bringing in something new months later? Fucking hell. It's beyond fucking laughable. They've stopped even fucking pretending these days and just do what they fucking want and badly at that. Having millions spent on something to make your job easier than nearly everything else on the planet and they still fucking fuck it all up every single week.

I don't care what they do with it because I'll hate it until they come up with a way of implementing it so that it does not fucking ruin the joy of a goal being scored.

I don't give a shit about offside by a toenail, or was it handball or not handball, or was it a trip or not a trip etc etc etc....

The single biggest bag of shit problem with VAR is it has taken the joy out of goal celebrations. It has ruined the best part of the game. :censored:
