Atalanta arsewipes A Thur Sept 19th KO 8pm

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It’s great to see Atalanta in the Champions League because Bergamo is a great city to visit.

For anyone out there the city is split into 2 - the upper and lower sections. The upper section is a walled old town and has fantastic views over the area. There are 2 funicular railways you can use if you don’t have a car.
Fantastic food too - the local delicacy is something called casoncelli (stuffed pasta with sausage, sage and parsley). Well worth trying!

Hasn't this shitfest finished yet. Feels like it's been going on for months.

I don't know a single person interested in this bollocks, except Augie

Minimal interest here buddy - the point I was making was that in recent seasons our cup performances have overall been nowhere near good enough, and if people keep telling me that we cant win the league (I dont agree with that btw), then why are those same people advocating putting out reserves tonight to prioritise a league they say we cant win ?? :?

Dont you not see the contradiction in that ?

Agree with Augie. The same people saying we should field an under strength team would be the first to complain bitterly if we lose. Football is about momentum and you can’t switch it off today hoping to turn up against City on Sunday. This is probably our best chance of winning a major trophy because of our strong defensive setup and I seem to recall this is what got us to the final in 2006 - the 1-9-Henry formation

Not disagreeing, hence the winky emoji

Our cup form is fucking disgraceful. It's as bad as the old fraud's lean years, but with far more resources and money. TOF's lean years also coincided with the stadium construction, which is somewhat mitigating, except he also went off the rails.

Even though there was a fair few games to watch last night, I really couldn't be arsed as I have very little interest in the new structure, it's just shit. And the idiots running FIFA think punters will be interested in their own bloatfest international team tournament. Invited teams should send their U21s.

It's cash over quality. I won't even go down the evil that is international football, that's a thread on its own

Not True. Perhaps they might be less than happy if the team Arteta selects plays poorly and get hammered by a big margin.

Most people on here see the new CL system as being purely what it is; just as Nick Nack said perfectly "cash over quality". The problem is the Game of Football had its Soul Sold a Long Time ago... in the UK when the Prem was invented - you know about the same time that Football was invented  . :?

Unless there is a HUGE Extremely Well Organised Up-rising by Fans Globally we are Fucked as is the once beautiful game.

I hope we win tonight but this whole competition is just a bloated money grab. At a time when the amount of teams competing should have been cut in half, they instead extend it to 36 teams

Fucking hell everything doesn’t have to be so binary. People like me who advocated we rest a few bodies tonight didn’t say it because we were waving the white flag to the whole competition, we said it because it’s virtually impossible not to qualify for the next round anyway.

I’d love if we sent out a weakened side tonight to give us the best chance of winning Sunday. I’d also absolutely love if we won this whole thing out. Both those thoughts are ok to have.

Anyway, anyone who’s ever listened to Arteta speak about how he expects everyone to be on beast mode and play 60 games a season knew he’d go full strength tonight anyway so any thoughts, hopes on team selection were redundant.

True Roddaz and perhaps the biggest thing he bangs on about all the time is continuity..... So no surprise he's gone full strength.
Good news for the travelling Gooners!
Now we have to win 0-4 to justify this team!! :barscarf: :barscarf:

Difference being if we lose tonight it will barely impact our chances of qualifying. Sundays game is more important for getting a positive result
I’d rather win both obviously!
Despite my apathy I’ve found myself tuning in for kick off. Would have preferred Saka to be rested after being taken off last game (although when isn’t he tbf!)

Ha! Nothing to see with that one - all ok to play on.

Tip the ball away - no other choice red card. Another laughable decision

Honest question, do you think we have gone full strength with that line up ? Surely jesus isnt a starter anymore ? I have no issue with rotation tonight if the right players are rested, but leaving out trossard and jorginho makes no sense to me cos they havent had many starts this season. Any game where we intentionally rotate even a small bit, surely saka has to be the name on the top of the list of players to be rested ??? We will go into the game Sunday with some key players tired, and players on the bench who cannot be sharp cos they have had little or no game time recently - hopefully we wont need to depend on the bench to win the game for us Sunday
