Arsenal and Italy relief after Calafiori injury
The former Bologna centre-back hit the deck after a worrying-looking twist to his knee in the second-half of Arsenal’s midweek 1-0 win. Calafiori had, of course, suffered a career-threatening knee injury back in 2018, right at the start of his life as a professional.

According to reports Corriere dello Sport, the Arsenal centre-back has suffered some minor damage to his medial collateral ligament (MCL), but that is only expected to keep him out of action for a matter of weeks rather than months.

Mikel Arteta is expected to provide more clarity on the situation and the potential recovery time when he speaks at his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s game at home against Liverpool at the weekend.

Calafiori is still expected to miss the Liverpool game, and possibly a few more after it as well, but the reports in Italy claim his injury is not as serious as first feared.

Source -if you can call it that.

Arteta would never have played him.

Remember when he said this year he sees something different in Jesus at training

We're leaching good young prospects at the moment. Can only assume that either they think they have little chance of progress; seen what's happened with other home grown talent like ESR,; or they're having their heads turned by whoever is "managing " them that they can get a better deal elsewhere.

Wiltshire has just left as well, and I'm sure I read an article that some of the under 18s are not impressed that he has gone.

I get the feeling something isn't quite right. Look at Nwaneri warming the bench whilst he gets overlooked for the fat, lard-arsed ladyboy :cussing:

Why the fuck did we let him go? If it was money, which I’m assuming it must have been, then we should have paid him. He’s been prolific since we signed him.

Yeah, I said this the other day that something doesn’t feel right and that managers tend to have a shelf life, unless they’re wining things and are rarities like Ferguson and Klopp.

Brendan Rogers is a prime example. Arrives, things improve, has a good couple of seasons and then it goes off a cliff. I think these type arrive with all the positive, buzz word enthusiasm, which inspires everyone for a while, until the shine wears off and the players see that there’s not much behind the facade. Once players and staff start questioning and doubting the game is up. For a while the manager will surround himself with yes men, regardless of how poor they are, but it’s over. Took the club 10 yrs to spot that with Wenger.

Can’t help wondering if Arteta is approaching this point. This season will tell us.

If you are a young talented prospect in AFC academy and looked at the limited chances Nwaneiri, smith-rowe, nelson (to a lesser degree) and other talented young players have fared under the cone boy, would you want to stay regardless of wages on offer ?? I know not to many on here rated tavares (for example), but we all knew before zinchenko was signed that he cannot defend, so from tavares point of view he knew that regardless of how shit zinchenko played, he (tavares) was still not going to get a proper chance under the cone boy. When you have a young talented prospect on your books, you have to commit fully to bringing him through and accepting the teething problems that comes with a young player learning the game - the cone boy would play a young lad occasionally but if he screwed up he would be dropped straight away and that doesnt help a young player develop imo.

Of course I could be wrong in my assessment and these defections could all be financially motivated cos money is god for a lot of young players  However I just believe that a club known for bringing young talented players through, will rarely lose young players the way we are because players advisors will always want their young prospects at a club where they will get proper coaching PLUS a higher chance of making a faster breakthrough to the first team cos that is where they will make their reputation and money in the long term

We are nowhere near approaching that point with the cone boy - as a fanbase we traditionally live in the extremes so everything is either going wonderfully well or absolutely shit, and the problem with that is that as a fanbase we are only one big win from getting everyone behind the cone boy again  Just look how long it took for the majority to accept that the french fraud was a busted flush - everywhere away ground we went to we had the home fans singing "arsene wenger we want you to stay", and yet our numptys still couldnt accept that he needed replacing   The majority of our fans purely see the journey under el basque as major improvement - they dont see the decline of our rivals, they dont factor in the money spent, they dont recognise the money wasted, and they use citeeh's wealth and referee's fcuk ups as a means to deflecting away any focus on poor management. Sad to say, but I honestly think another 2 or 3 trophyless seasons under the cone boy still wont turn fans against him
