We are a long way away from the apathy we saw in Wonga’s latter years. It is not around the corner sir. Tactically we are streetwise and no longer allow the damaging high scoring defeats that tarnished the club’s competitive image under Wonga. Signings are not all down to Mikel and we also have to operate within the Premier League Sustainability rules. Suggest he’ll be here for another 2-3years so better get used it. I’m ok with another season or 2 if he wins a trophy.augie wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 2:30 pmGeneral wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 9:46 amEl basque must be quivering at the thought of augie handing him his P45. Exactly that. If a scum supporter started listing Charity Shields in their roll of honours, I'd take the piss mercilessly. No self respecting football supporter would list Charity Shields amongst their club's honours, it's small club mentality.DB10GOONER wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 5:44 pmFuuuuck.... desperate indeed.Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 5:18 pmBFG4 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2024 4:08 pmhttps://youtu.be/iRLbcw3m_Fw?si=_csj3fKl4DDjXsRf

As for Arteta, this is how it starts and it's more evidence of Wenger Mkll. Soon we'll be hearing that 4th place is a trophy and that we've won the calendar year league.

Re-charity shield. It really is a trophy and in both instances we defeated the best team in the league. You have to earn the right to be there. Let’s not bring Spurs into it. They don’t have the privilege of counting one.
The wider point here is whether we’ve made sufficient progress to warrant giving Mikel more time. I’ve said many times that we had to reconstruct the footballing foundations of this club after Wenger and it was always going to take several years to undo the damage.

Re the Charity Shield, I don’t think I know any serious football supporter that would list it in the trophy haul. I’d find it embarrassing to do so and I’m far from alone. Schoolboys, women and blokes that haven’t played and tend to have no idea what they’re watching might desperately include, together with small time club supporters, but no one serious in my opinion.
Not sure why spurs can’t be brought into it, they’ve won it a few times and I’ve no doubt their fans count it.

You’re equivocating on Arteta. “Another season at least.” That could be two, ten, or more. The line about the mess he inherited is done to death. He had the basis of a squad, kept a couple, got rid of most and has spent £800 million in 5 years. That’s time and money enough. Few were talking about the mess he inherited over the previous two seasons. The talk was about what a fabulous job he was doing. Well, we’ve regressed big time this season, but suddenly it’s all to do with what he inherited. It’s more accurate to judge by his season against the last two and also against Liverpool and Chelsea who have interestingly both appointed new managers.

Ah yes and I can't wait for "special circumstances" to make an appearance, along with "an accident", oh and "lacking a bit the sharpness in the final third" seems very pertinent at the moment. Before you start criticising BFG, you must remember that we haven't drawn and lost those games this season, we won them due to expected goals and that's what's important.
Hooray, the good old days are back!!

Amen, Dec. Fucking embarrassing beyond belief to be bigging up the charity shield - which is what is. It was historically a friendly season opener.
