As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Sky jumping straight away on the....we don't need a striker train
Fucks sake. They really do pander to the modern football fan that thinks one good performance or a couple of isolated goals makes a player a legend.
well, they aint alone......have a bit of this from the editor of our very own gooner website (hes a serious journo dont ya know)
""What was instructive was that most knowledgable Gooners who’ve watched Jesus performances over the last year, would know and understand that he has been working so hard on and off the ball, and never gave up, nor felt sorry for himself, let alone dragged the team down. And he duly received his reward for sticking at it against Palace. ""
Basically in translation if you questioned Jesus in the last year your a bit of a dick and all REAL and GENUINE gooner know that its perfectly acceptable to have a striker that doesn't score for a year and then gets 3 .
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut at some point!!
To further my point on our own editor, hes a perfect example of how to pander to his audience and anyone who doesnt like it must not be a "knowledgable Gooner"......what a prick!!
Does anyone trust arteta to make the quality goal scoring forward signing we so desperately need?
like the look of Gyökeres he gave Saliba a tough enough time, strong running direct forward...not sure about valhovic
I’ve said time and time again that we need a magic player with ruthless finishing. Gyokeres might help but he is not that player and neither is Vlahovich or Osimeh. These magical players are in short supply, usually cost a lot of money and rarely become available in January. This is not all down to Arteta and we have to operate within Premier League Sustainability Rules.
It's true those 'Special Strikers' are a rare commodity these days, as are those defenders usually CB's who are Head and Shoulders above all other defenders (no pun intended); like Saliba.
The 2 main reasons that 'Strikers' are a rare commodity is because once a club has them they get signed up to the kind of contracts; with Buy-out clauses that are intended to ward off other clubs.
And whilst Gyökeres is Damn Good and would be (for me) the Missing Piece in our puzzle, whether he is top, top qualiteeee is open to question, besides he'll be going to manure to link up with Amorim again.
So we need to set our sights slightly lower and get in a Young Raw Talent who can become that rare commodity. Who? There-in is the Rub.
So in the same way that Bellingham was an Obvious 'Talent' from the off, I think (and hope) that this will soon apply to Ethan Nwaneri.
As for our (Proper) Striker dilemma? Even if there was a player who fitted the bill, trying to get them in the January window is a non-starter, unless the selling club are desperate for the money and the player is up for leaving.
In other words... No Striker in January... No Prem Title this season... It is something that should have been attended to in the Summer. Why it wasn't is either down to:
Because the desired player was not available
We couldn't afford what was wanted due to FFP/PRS
or Arteta thought we could win the Title (& Other trophies) with what we have.

Some Arsenal fans don’t have the patience to give a young raw talent the chance to come good. We need a player who can raise the standard of what we already have whilst possessing that fabled magic quality of the elite. This is why the problem is not an easy fix like some fans would have you believe. On current evidence, whoever we get is going to have shortcomings, almost certainly won’t be elite and would probably just offer something different to Havertz and Jesus.

Excellent points as always, OBG. The one that I think we could get with a decent offer is Isak because the barcodes need to get players out to have any chance of spending money in future transfer windows. They can't spend anything because they won't comply with the financial rules and won't be getting any Champions League football and revenue for a long time to come. Whether this is a conscious decision from other clubs to effectively limit their spending and negate their threat, I don't know but he could be gettable and would fit the bill of what we need. More realistically, I think we'll get Rashford with a lower offer with Manure willing to let him go because they want the money for Gyökeres in the summer.

That's absolute bu.llshit and you know it - the fans are clamouring for Nwanieri to get more game time, but the basque clown is the one holding him back and stunting his development. Arsenal fans are more patient and tolerant of homegrown players than they are of the likes of jesus and zinchenko for example - you want to throw out bullshit excuses to defend legohead cos you refuse to see him as a very real problem and choose to deflect by blaming fans These are the same fans that complained about how smith-rowe was treated btw

Read properly fella. We are talking about buying a young raw striker and waiting for him to come good, not home grown players.

We aren’t in a position to buy a raw prospect that may, or may not come good. We’re desperate for a top quality, clinical striker and need to buy the finished article. It’s what serious clubs do. Arteta’s had 5 years and that major piece of the jigsaw has been missing all along (Auba was clearly on the wane), so the time for patience has long passed. Bear in mind that in Arteta’s mind, Jesus and Havertz were the finished articles.
I made the point in the summer during the euros, that there is a serious dearth of top quality strikers….I don’t think I noticed any….but we ought to be able to find an upgrade on the two duffers who we have as our strikers.

100% Retro....but the more clamour there is for a striker the more arteta digs his heels in
I think Arteta has a huge hard-on for Sesko. Wouldn't be my choice at all, I think he needs another 2 years at least to prove himself.
I would take Osimhen or Vlahovic. There's rumors of Rashford being willing to take a big pay cut for the right move. If the fee was no more than 40m and wages were not more than 200k a week, i'd take a gamble on Rashford.
I know it's a big risk as his mind may not be on footy at all but if we look at Potential, Rashford could be perfect for us ........ But it is a big gamble.

Must say TeeCee you have a very unique way of putting things
From the little I've seen of Sesko he's not good enough. Agree on the Rashford thing, he IS a Player still has bags of pace and can finish, he could either be played through the centre; which he did really well with manure 2 seasons ago scored something like 30 goals?...It would be a Gamble, but I think Arteta could bring the best out of him, give him his confidence back, also he'd be with fellow England players, Saka, Decca's and White. ...AND he could be the catalyst to kick Martinelli up the rear, so that he has to fight for his place. But Hey! What do I know.
