New seats at Arsenal = more fans and income (18/6)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

New seats at Arsenal = more fans and income (18/6)

Post by gooner.ed »

Usual thread starter. Interesting thought, but let’s face it. All the health and safety rules will surely dictate that the capacity of the stadium has to remain at its current level. The seats at the new stadium are undoubtedly comfy, but they are a pain in the butt if you have someone with a weak bladder in your row, or indeed early leavers… but let’s not go there again!

i think that the council only granted permission for a 60,000 capacity due to transport links and health and saftey issues (we applied for 80'000). so despite the good theory i won't happen.

It's a good suggestion but one I'm sure Arsenal are well aware of.

The planning permission thing is a stumbling block, but there's no reason we can't apply to expand after a few seasons, provided everything runs smoothly between then and now.

Hope we get the transport issues sorted before we think of expanding!!

I'd love to know how Arsenal rates in terms of square metres per fan compared with other Prem clubs. I remember how uncomfortable I was the last time I visited Old Trafford with them squeezing in at least 6 for every 4 seats at the Grove. It should at least mean that we could expand in the future without the need for major rework.

If we were to do something a little more radical then I'd favour taking out some Club Class & boxes at the North End and having just one continuous stand behind the goal. Small terrace at the bottom. Cheap to implement, increases capacity and atmosphere. To maximise revenue we could even expand the club level along the side.

It's an awful suggestion - the sort that could only be made by a ****ing accountant. Having waited 50 years to find any stadium in the UK with a comfortable seat as soon as I get one then someone wants to throw it away and make it smaller. Have you ever sat in the narrow pinched seats at Old Trafford or smashed your knees up at Villa Park?

A far simpler way to make more income would be to take out whole blocks of seats behind the goal altogether and have standing sections. Safety wouldn't be an issue. I'd estimate that three times the number could be comforatably accommodated in total safety.

Then again if you really want to see some huge armchairs that could do with a reduction in size - go and have a look at the Diamond Club seats - they could easily fit in another 100 Diamond Club members!

But why exactly would the Club want even more income? Wenger is unlikely to spend it anyway.

Get rid of club level seats and make complete stands.

Club Level seats = BIG MONEY!!! There is no way that Arsenal are going to reduce the number of them in the stadium!!

PS and yes, I admit it, I am an Accountant.......

See what you mean now 15,000 times £50 for amount of ticket roughly is £750,000 and I see them getting a lot more for Club level seats than that.

Arsenal said once plans were finalised that they could of had an extra 20,000 seats but Arsene Wenger said 60,000 would be better something to do with atmosphe but im not sure what

Yeah there was planning restrictions on the height of the stadium I think it had to be under 50 mtrs and maybe Aw thought 60,000 was enough and anyone whos been in the upper reaches of the atmosphere at OT or the Nou Camp it's hard to find fault with that!
So to compete they decided to make a very comfortable arena with loads of exec boxes and club level seats and with it bein London they could charge premium rates for the stands as well, and it was actually the dearest season tickets which sold out first, all this revenue keeps the gate on a par with far larger stadiums!

Yes i'm an accountant & yes i suggested the idea.
The only thing i agreed with was the transport problem.
For those that like their seats, by changing some of the seats you would get a choice of large or small and pay accordingly. And in my humble opinion the seats shouldn't matter, we should be standing and singing.
For those that want to do that, small seats shouldn't be an issue. An extra 10000 fans wanting to do that would help create a hell of an atmosphere in the ground.
I go every week and the atmosphere can be great example - CC 2nd leg v Spurs was awesome. And why? The seats were cheap and many fans who ordinarily can't go because of the high prices could go. Loads of the old songs from the days of terracing at Highbury were being sung.
