ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Its actually hard to think of a worse season's transfer business than this one - Calafiori, Merino, Sterling + Neto on loans in one direction. ESR, Nketiah, Ramsdale, Vieira, Nelson, Elneny the other (with some more fringe players too).
€83m recouped, €108 spent (according to transfermarkt.com) as we also signed Raya permanently and we've managed to make the squad weaker!
Of that business I would say only the sale of Eddie was anything to smile about, quickly replaced by the despair of not actually signing a striker. So now I even sit here thinking he would be starting every game right now if he was here - depressing enough on one hand, but when you consider the alternative is Merino or a kid from the academy it really is staggeringly bad business
Edu was here for the majority of that business too
There's not one player we brought in that I'm especially happy with and on the other side, as I say, Eddie's departure was joy followed by despair
And we're now expected to believe that Isak, Nico Williams and Zubamendi are about to walk through the door AND we retain all our best players. Honestly it defies belief. Its a totally wasted season and in any other line of work, those responsible would be paying with their jobs
Even when the new season starts the cluster of players he signed - Vieira, Nuno, Lokonga - will all be back here and evidently not good enough, so all set to be loaned out again until their deals expire. Nelson despite signing a long term deal will be in that bracket too.
We are truly fortunate that the likes of the vermin, Chavs and Man Ure are in disarray and that Bournemouth, Villa and Newcastle are European contenders because our squad is rapidly heading back to the level it was when Wenger left i.e. one or two top talents, an over cluttered and imbalanced squad on big wages, and a load of 'never will be's' earning big contracts that nobody else would touch
Think if anything we will be even further from the title next season than this season. Out of the supposed 'injury crisis' who are we truly missing? Saka really. Can anyone hand on heart say that the others were all in such good form that they are sorely missed. We're assuming if that's the case that the likes of Havertz, Jesus and Martinelli would have pissed on West Ham when the truth is that they have been out of form almost the whole season

This side with Eddie up top would at least remove the need to play Sterling. Fabio Vieira as crap as he is can rotate as some sort of playmaker when we are bossing sides. ESR would clearly have played. Even Nelson can beat a man. I agree that none of them are good enough but to get them out of the Club and bring in Sterling as the sole replacement is a literal bad joke. Staggeringly bad planning.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2025 12:34 pmIts actually hard to think of a worse season's transfer business than this one - Calafiori, Merino, Sterling + Neto on loans in one direction. Isak will go to Barcelona as the successor to Lewandowski.
I would.
I would.

Timber coming back from last season's injury has obviously been a big positive (streets better than white imo), but other than that, the only other positives this season have been the two academy lads and that alone should shine a massive spotlight on legohead's purchases. I have said for the past 18 months that it is a shocking fact that our most important/best players (saliba, saka and martinelli used to be imo) were all players that were already in the club before legohead and edu were appointed, and now you can add Nwanieri and Lewis-Skelly to that list and again none of them are players brought in with the £800m he pissed away

Without a doubt Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly have been the Two Stand-out players this season, which as you say speaks volumes considering they are fresh out of the academy and even with their lack of 1st Team experience at 18yrs & 17yrs of age have saved arsenal teta's skin on more than one occasion.

At this rate our best chance of signing a striker or winger is if one comes through the youth route. We have MLS, Nwaneri this season. Dowman looks like an Odegaard clone. Just watch him on YouTube. Unfortunately we have let our striker go to United after they offered him silly money. I’m not aware of anyone else so we may need to wait a few seasons.

BBC Sports / Football:
"Arsenal are keen to strengthen their midfield with the addition of Netherlands international Frenkie de Jong, 27, and are willing to offer Barcelona 75m euros (£62.2m)"
2 points of view(?)
Yet another fucking mid-fielder
It means they get shot of Partey

We are not flush with cash. No one left to sell. Jesus injured can’t be sold. Zinchenko shit. Partey and Jorginho out of contract. Tierney on a free. We need a back up keeper permanently, Zubimendi to replace Partey and Jorginho. A winger and a striker. Guaranteed Saliba is off. £80m to Madrid is my bet. Probably not all up front and probably reliant on add ons.the playing mantis wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 12:09 amArticle in the times the other day about do we need to sell a star to fund a kick on and mentioned saliba.

A third point of view is we sign another midfielder and watch in awe as Carpark-Foot Partey still plays every game and said new signing warms the bench.OneBardGooner wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2025 11:43 amBBC Sports / Football:

I have a horrible feeling you are right. It's sickening to think of a club of our stature and this is the shitfest we are in.Limerick Gooner wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 12:13 amWe are not flush with cash. No one left to sell. £80m for Saliba, never going to happen in a million years, absolutely no chance.

Maybe not that exact amount, but I'd be amazed if he was still here next season. Why would he want to be? The top players want to win the top prizes. That ain't happening with this current moron in charge is it.EC1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 7:59 pmDB10GOONER wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 12:15 amI have a horrible feeling you are right.
