Don't we need an experienced defender ?

Don't we need an experienced defender ?

Post by gunners-need-steel »

Me thinks we are in dire need of a very experienced defender with some airial (cant be bothered to check the spelling of that one right now .. LOL) authority .. someone in the mould of a Tony Adams, Keown, Japp Stam ..

I think we need this more than additional strikers because our key defenders are vulnerable in the air .. no use dominating a team for 89 minutes, and concede easily from a set-piece ... Remember our exit from the champions league !!!

Even What with all the transfer rumours, I never heard any rumours lining us with a rated defender .. what gives ? Does everyone know something that I dont ? :?:

The spelling you were looking for was aerial and you should be embarrased a 14 year old shouldn't be your spell check lol. No I don't know anything about rumours of a well known defender goingto arsenal.

To be honest I think we're ok for defenders. In Clichy we have a player on course to be world class. Gallas and Toure are two of the best in the premiership. Gallas wasn't superb last season, but give him the benefit of the doubt, his first season and missed a huge chunk of it through injury. Not many players would have been at the top of their game in that situation. We also have many options for right back so that shouldn't be a problem.

Instead of signings, we need to concentrate on developing the players we have. If they could learn how to cencentrate for set pieces and become more dominent in the air it would be the mist solid defence in the country.

As I said, I don't think it's new faces we need, just more hard work from those we have in training and in matches. We should be fine.

I think we do
We may of been boring but we had the Enlgish back 6
One by one they left with Stevie B moving to Sunderland first, Nutty to West Ham
Tony & Lee winning the double in there last season was brillant
After Adams & Dixon left we had Sol, Keown & Lauren
Now a year later after Sol left we got a Willy
I think that Willy & Kolo has done well so far but TBH i don't see it going on for too long with Gallas's mouth opening abit too much
I think abit of expericne won't hurt & i think if Paddy stayed the team would of been better of even without Thierry

As said in previous long forgotten posts!

Lets give Kolo and Willy a full season together and then make an opinion! I think we was all excited about the prospect of Gallas in our defence when he signed (although I would have been happy to have got nothing to get rid of the *word censored* Mr Tweedy) and I reckon a full season at centre half is the least we can give him!

Djorou looks mustard to me and if we have to turn to Swiss Phil at least he has quite a number of games under his belt!

Just please nobody tell him Drogba is in town!

Didn't Willie go quiet all of a sudden :?

Maybe he knows something we don't and the Eto'o Stories have some substance after all 8)

"Gunners need steel" now youve stopped saying we need Beattie, Harewood, Nolan and Heskey(i made the last one up sorry :) ) which you said on another thread, i agree we do need some extra cover at the back although finding another Adams will be impossible to find those types of players dont come along too often. Lets hope we can sign another central defender before the sart of the season.

daz10, correction: I never said we need beattie/harewood/nolan .. just said it would not be a bad idea to sign one of them (implied: especially as they will cost little, and IMHO, have decent potential) ... Do agree with u tho, we do need experienced cover in central defence ...

As the name suggest, Our defence is still as Solid as STEEL, only that Senderos should be alternated

solid as steel ? our defence ? Have u just returned from mars or something ? The main reason we were not in contention last season or champions league semis was defence .. well, add the ability to miss open goals :P

It's hard to belive that Phillipe got rid of Sol but ever since he's not been the same
Sol was our steal & i think Kolo is taking over

I don't have any problem with any of the current 4 except phil. Think the others can handle Drogba & Co.

I think if a world class CB became available at the right price then yes we should go in for them, but if not don't think we need to panic buy although a replace ment for Phil would be my one wish.

If only we could get Alex!
