Summer Spending-is that it?

Cheers for your replies guys mixed bag on what we will be doing. Just shows how much distrust there is these days of some of the crap that has been coming out of the club in recent years. We have had our manager say we will get 2 players then get no one or that we are very close only for the transfer period to beat us.His latest statement is cryptic as usual and reads to me like he has finished whatever buying or selling he planned. Is Freddie staying to qualify for a 10 year testimonial...either way this guy is past it and we know it.
We are widely quoted as signing 4 players but only 2 of them will be in the first squad.
We are playing for 4th and may struggle to get that.
The waiting list question was merely wondering how people felt supporters patience will last.
Out of 10 i rate this summer as 2.

Goonanana, oh wise .. how very true:
a strong centre back is seriously needed ... even if Toure were not going to the ANC

With our preference for undisclosed fees, it's difficult to say but I work out our transfer activity to be PLUS 14million if Reyes goes for 8million.

Our reliance is on the individual improvement of our young players.

Is this direction driven more heavily by Wenger or the boardroom?

Cockerills Chin...love that name.

I just think this over reliance on the youngsters is a smokescreen designed to gloss over the fact we arent spending much wonga. How many other big clubs turn that sort of profit? It seems to be the bottom line for us and has been for some time. The real man who should be coming up with some answers is Keith Edelman.Personally i dont think you can trust this guy further than you can throw him. I absolutely buy into the fact that this season is about treading water and the board is keeping the spending in check pending a buy out/takeover whatever. My company is doing the exact same thing.
Only Wenger would be able to operate under these conditions...it just pisses me off when i see where we were in 2004. We should at least be competing...we arent currently.

I agree that we don't have enough to push for the title, but I also think we'll be better than many people think.

The more we hear about what was really going on with Henry the more I'm glad he's gone. It was time to move on. From the clips I've seen of Eduardo he looks like and out and out goalscorer - what we've been crying out for for seasons now. I don't care what league he's played in, having watched Youtube the boy can finish. And yes he can head a ball!! And Sagna, fantastic signing, just what the doctor ordered. IMO Right Back was one of our bigest weakness last season. Sagna should tighten us up plus add cover across the back 4. We also have a new young keeper snapping at Jens heals - just the kick up the arse I think he needs.

Yes I still think we need more. A strong Centre Back is vital as many of you have already stated. A winger would be nice too, but I think Walcott will be stronger this year so provide more of a wide option and I think Eboue could be fantastic in a wide attacking role.

Ideally Arsene would have liked all new signings in before the Austria trip. But transfers are a bit more complicated than that and can be prolonged affairs. I also have the feeling he may be waiting to get money back on Reyes and/or Freddie to use on other signings. So with 6 or so weeks still to go maybe we'll see another addition or two before the window closes?

What would you prefer, a team who finished 2 points behind Utd last year but were at their peak with limited room for improvement, or a young promising squad, 21 points adrift but with bags of potential and massive room for improvement? I know, a combination of the two would be good but that wasn't one of the options!!!!

8) Like a lot of fans I find my mind is changing on different Arsenal issues on a nearly daily basis. I was 100% convinced that we needed a winger, especially a left winger, but now I am longer sure. The one thing I do remain convinced of is that little tommy (rosicky) should be in the team at all times (if fit) cos I believe this year he will be a star for us. As it looks like we will be playing 4-4-2 that would put tommy on 1 wing and leave the other wing spot open with theo, eboue, hleb & freddie possibly battling for that spot. While eboue def has qualities going forward, I dont think he would be the right answer and yet again we would be in a position where neither of our wingers are natural wingers. To my mind only young theo has the qualities we require from our wingers (pace, skill, willingness to work hard for the team & of course an eye for goals) and if we really believe that he will be a star then this season he has to be given a chance and he has to be ready to take it. Should we bring in another winger then I do wonder if theo will get enough games to make a difference to his development. When I look up front and at the back I see the same problems for Bedtner(not sure about him myself) & big Phil(sadly prospects look bleak) & Djouru (who I think can be a star in this team and is more than ready to step into kolo's boots during the anc. Therefore unless le boss decides to flog either senderos or gallas(unlikely i know) then i cannot see any more additions to our centre-backs or strikers. Christ I obviously need help cos I am now agreeing with Arsene about giving our youth a chance while at the same time admitting that our squad is not strong enough. I think I need to go for a lie down now as trying to solve these problems is giving me a headache :? :? :?

Dont understand that logic. If he was planning to make a super super class signing before Henry decided to leave, then why will he change his mind when Henry left. The cost of the signing of Eduardo and Sagna was met by the money got from Henry's sale. I dont know what would stop the boss from making a super class signing.

Sounds to me that from that, the 'super, super signing' was a midfielder.

Who I wonder?
