It's the dumbest made up bullshit bollocks there has ever been, obviously thought up by virgin geeks that have never played the game but were raised in a grief bunker in their mommy's basement playing Football Manager.Arsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Mon May 12, 2025 8:08 pmI know it has been said on here any million times before but I just want to add, again, how much I despise that xG stat shite.

Now now, Arsene loved XG. All those games we lost, but actually won.
It’s up there with “we are there” and given our points totals, we’ve clearly won the PL at least twice in the last 3 years….haven’t we???

It is funny but annoying when younger supporters base everything on stats like XG..
It is all about the expected rather than the reality. It is used as an excuse for losing. " Well our XG was higher". But the opposition actually scored goals. You know that thing on the end line, with the posts and crossbar ? The one with the net behind it.? You put the ball in there to get a goal. Team that does it most times in a game wins. It really hasn't changed in 150 years.
When Arsenal are linked with a player the same happens, stats are quoted, he has a great record. Yes , but in the Dutch or French league. Maybe the winger with the most assists has played with a striker who scores for fun, and will continue to even when that winger is gone.
Finally I detest football jargon..." Who's in nets?"...." The manager's presser" " we need a CDM"....

There's loads of that shit in the modern game. "High press", "Low block" (this one seems completely un-football like), "Transition", "Turnovers", "Pivot" (that's a defensive midfielder to us), "Finding pockets of space" (also known as "finding space"), "Between the lines".
No idea who makes this crap up, but the commentators, who seem to have never kicked a ball, love it.

Absolutely agree with this and glad someone else has noticed it. He drives me nuts, always heavy on the hyperbole and coming out with all manner of inane, pseudo intellectual clap trap. These type of prats are trying to build an identity and a career for themselves, but they'd get more respect just commenting properly on the game.
Motson and Davies always stood out as quality commentators in my opinion. Was never keen on Brian Moore, who was a founding father of the more excitable and over the top approach, although nowhere near as bad as the clowns we have now. Funnily enough, Tyler gets some stick on here, but always quite liked him.

Barry Davies was always the best. Just commentated on the game and didn't fuck about trying to be part of the 'experience'. I used to like Moore as a kid and he's always associated with us and those famous words in 1989. Never liked Motson or that fat manc twat Tyldesley. Most of them these days are obsessed with trying to create an 'iconic moment', trying to pretend that a two-yard tap in at the back post in mid-January is somehow a 'massive moment.'Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 5:04 pm

I couldn't stand Martin 'I fucking love United' Tyler. I'm so glad that Sky put him out to pasture.
Peter Dury's attempt at being the Lord Byron of football commentary is jarring. His rehearsed passion is clearly an attempt to shove himself in the annals for football history along the lines of 'they think it's all over' or 'it's up for grabs now' etc.
Didn't he once make a quip last season about Jesus scoring around Easter, or something like that? You can tell he had that written down and was itching to use it.

I also hate "field tilt" I thought that was barnets pitch at underhill

Talking of which, why oh why do the female pundits, and it's always them, always use the phrase " that's what he/she is all about ".Red Army 2 wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 7:55 pmthats another quote picked up by the womens game..along with the others above
I'll tell you why, it's because they are unable to communicate what is going on on the pitch in a coherent manner.
Stupid bints
