And FFP. We cant circumnavigate as some can...Still 100m was cheap based onwhat we have vs. What else has sold for that ballpark.

We got him half price

With Havertz starting to have more & more impact it looks like the £160 mill was well spent

I would like to think that Timber will go onto prove himself in the premier league as a great buy too, such a shame about his injury before we even had a proper chance to welcome him

Yep the defence has been brilliant since Xmas and the little we did see of Timber before injury he could be capable of improving it even moreStuart L (2) wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2024 7:30 pmStuart L (2) wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2024 7:29 pm

Re: Welcome Declan Rice
Another record broken this season - the first £105m bargain ever !
Meanwhile I was very pleased to see in the media at the weekend, a list of the top 5 worst signings of the season with one season wonder Caicedo up there alongside Tonali and our very own Rob Holding. And to think he was the choice of a good few on here.....lol, I'd rather have Clubfoot Clive back than the Brighton paperweight
Keep going Deccers! Player of the Year awaits

Re: Welcome Declan Rice
Next season Rice should be given the captain's armband. He's had a very good season and scored some important goals in big games for us.
He acts like a captain, he speaks like a captain, he leads like a captain and is far more worthy of it than mr invisible.

Re: Welcome Declan Rice
Can't see Diet Pep taking it away from Captain Milksop, cos it will reflect on Diet Pep that he got it wrong.
But yes it should be Rice, or Gabriel
Re: Welcome Declan Rice
Funny I would give it to Gabriel ahead of rice - its easy to forget but rice goes missing on occasions too, and whilst he is a million times better leader than the disappearing c.unt, I still think allowing him to play without the burden of captaincy would help him more. Gabriel takes conceding goals personally and that is the type of leader that I want

Re: Welcome Declan Rice
Rice is too inconsistent to be captain. He has good games where he has great moments, and then he has bad anonymous games with moments of greatness (like against the toon), but he also has completely anonymous games where he drifts out and contributes nothing. He never has a run of games where he is consistently brilliant and consistently leads.
I'd go with Gabriel for captain. I've also always liked the idea of a CH being captain as they can see the whole team in front of them and that perspective is best for telling team mates what they need to be told.
Having said that I'd take almost anyone ahead of Captain Invisible as our captain. He needs to go.

Rice inconsistent ????
You have to be on a wind up surely !!
Even when he has one of his less effective games (which is rare} he is an 8/10, our best player by far and obvious captain material, he basically does the job of captain already, the team look to him for inspiration and he brings it to the table, our player of the season due to how consistent he is game after game after game, I dread to think where we would be without him and we need to start picking up silverware to keep him

Skipper for me as soon as he signedI said that with Gabriel vice, think it would be the making of him and drive the team forward. Sadly captain invisible won't be dropped, a new manager would take it off him in a heartbeat.

How is that a wind up? Take your rose tinted blinkers off. He is notorious for being inconsistent and was also at wet sham.elpelsarmy wrote: ↑Tue May 20, 2025 11:17 amRice inconsistent ????

Perfect example, rewatch the toon match. He was nowhere for most of that game, hardly had a significant touch, and mostly laid off short negative safe passes. But he scored a brilliant winner. No denying that. But that does not make him a consistent performer.
Not sure what you've been watching this season but he most definitely has not been an 8 out of 10 consistently, nor has he been consistent "game after game after game."
I've never understood why people get so bent out of shape when you call a spade a spade.

Re: Welcome Declan Rice
I’d be happy with either Rice or Gabriel as captain.
I’ve always been a fan of Gabriel and where many on here were saying that he’d improved with Saliba alongside him (very likely, as anyone performs better with a good partner alongside them), it’s been noticeable how Saliba hasn’t looked so reliable without Gabriel next to him. As DB says, a CB has a good view of the game and as augie says, Gabriel hates conceding goals. Maybe a slight concern about him as captain is that he can be a bit hot headed at times, although he seems to have calmed that down a bit. Some fire in the belly is vital, but it has to be under control.
I think Rice has the presence to be captain and he seems to be treated as captain in all but name by the media and many supporters. From a political point of view, it’s an advantage to have an English captain who plays for the national team. They always seem to get more licence from referees. Shouldn’t be the case, but it seems to be.
Anyway, I’d take Vieira, Lokonga or Tavares over Captain Milksop and they’re all out on loan. In fact, I’d take the tea lady over Odegaard, who seems to be the only Norwegian without the Viking gene.

I`m far from "bent out of shape " mate I can assure you, just totally disagree with you that`s all, but its all about opinions eh ? not a problem, lets just agree that I`m right and you are wrong and we can all move on lol !
I just think he is our best player by far, keeps things simple and ticking over whilst always putting a shift in , driving us forward and coming up with moments of magic, sometimes this season he has been playing in about 3 different positions covering peoples arses and putting fires out, I love him and if he wants to try and turn me gay I`m up for it!!
{ I agree he had one of his quieter games against Newcastle though }
