Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread

Just to be clear, before someone asks if that means that I believe Gyokeres to be the finished article, then I know too little about him to make that claim. Like most on here, I have reservations about both players, but it seems like Gyokeres has developed well and I have serious doubts about Sesko.

Out of curiosity Isak joined Newcastle, not the finished article at the time, but we're writing off Sesko cos he's not the finished article.

I'm not advocating for Sesko but where's the difference
Exactly what I was trying to point out.

Well, firstly, having seen both, one moved with the fluidity of an athlete, while one less so. It’s also possible to see clear potential, even if it’s not ultimately realised. With others, the limitations appear more obvious than the potential. No guarantees, but no way do I see Sesko developing into an Isak.

Secondly, we haven’t got time to wait for potential to develop. If we sign a striker with possible potential, then bang goes another 2-3 years while we wait and see. It’s time that we acted like the big club we claim to be and buy the finished article.
Retro not digging you out ,but how familiar were you with Isak b4 he joined Newcastle .We can look at all YouTube stuff etc and be wise after the fact ,and we all know no matter who we sign striker wise ,Havertz is an Arteta fav

Sesko is by all accounts a target man and imo the days of playing a target man are long gone. We had smudger and quinny back in the day, but they were being fed by wingers like marwood, Rocky and limpar - we no longer play that way and football in general has moved on. I watched sesko playing for his country in the last major tournament and he didnt look anywhere near top level. 13 and 14 goals in his last two seasons doesnt scream prolific in a league where timo werner scored far more than him. I will also say that the big difference between the geordies signing isak and us signing sesko is expectations - clubs like the geordies can buy a player like sesko cos they know that he will be given the time to develop there - we sign a striker this summer after 5 trophyless seasons (and over £750m spend) then he sure as shit better hit the ground running cos we are a big club expected to win trophies, so there will be no patience and especially with the type of money being quoted in the press.

If I am being honest here I will also say that I want our system to change with the signing of a quality striker - we need to be more explosive in our attacks, and imo we need a striker that we can slide a few passes behind the backline for a pacy goalscorer to run onto. Sesko is not that type of player - his style is slow possession based crap that the cone boy has bored us to death with for the last two seasons. Like I have said a load of times, I can understand people having concerns over gyokeres for different reasons cos I am not convinced either, but sesko will not be a difference maker for this team and imo if we sign him we can write off next season straight away

And some of you thought that the scum winning the europa league would be a bd thing for us - apparently they are now trying to sign Christopher Nkunku from the chavs, so if that means we wont get him, then that is a great result for us :barscarf: :barscarf:

Sesko is the new Havertz...
I've no idea what we see in him to pay the fees that have been reported.

His stats, for his age, in a mediocre team are very good.

He looks like a better version of Havertz in the long run, not very exciting maybe, but does improve the squad depth markedly.

£93m would be insane though, I think he'll probably be closer to 70.

Always felt like Gyokeres was unlikely given he's 27 in June and the fact he hasn't done it yet in a top league, though his CL record is v good, its a small sample.

Who else is out there and available (not Isak!)?.

Arsenal have begun talks with RB Leipzig in an attempt to sign 21-year-old Slovenia forward Benjamin Sesko, who has a release clause worth over 80m euros (£67.4m). (Sky Germany)

The daily mail this morning reporting that leipzig are looking for an initial £75m (that's sterling not euro's) - makes me wonder if there is a release clause cos reports have the fee' all over the place and if there is a release clause the fee would be fixed

So the mousers won the league at a canter AND look to have identified and signed up their targets barely after the seasons ended, fair enough wirtz is not done yet but the general consensus seems to be done deal.

I really and truly don’t want to be bad mouthing my own team all the time but the club themselves simply load the ammunition for me, I’m just left to pull the trigger.

At least they’ve flushed 1 so far but the overall outlook is headed for another window to prove Legohead shouldn’t be trusted with another dime, it’s not like history is on his side when it comes to transfers. This berta lad better be the real deal!!

That's an absolute certainty, but the problem is working out which one is the nearest to the truth - is there a release clause or not ? Not that it changes my mind cos I dont want sesko anyway
