Modern Football Bol**cks

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Bayern have scored 10 against Auckland City in the Club World Cup. 10-0.

What an absolute joke of a competition.
That can't be real, can it? I've avoided it like herpes, but 10 nil is laughing stock levels of pointlessness.

Was it Auckland City under 12s? :rubchin:

Or their women's team maybe? :rubchin:
Some of their players (if not all) are part-time; their 'keeper is taking unpaid leave from his job just to be there.

Must admit I’m more up for this than the women’s euros later this summer.

Might watch some of the late night game - Boca Juniors have fantastic support.

Won’t bother with the Ulsan v Mamelodi match tomorrow night though :D
Stayed up for whole match in the end - absolutely superb. 4 goals, 3 red cards, electric atmosphere.
If all of the games were like this then it would be a great tournament.

I’m usually on here to post negative shit about the way modern football has gone, so it’s good to be positive for once!

When Boca Juniors play River Plate... It is Absolute Fucking Mayhem!... Their rivalry makes the (so-called) Old Firm derby look like a polite tea party !

Many years ago, I was staying in Buenos Aires and took in a Boca Juniors game at La Boca stadium.

At the time, the area of La Boca was quite dangerous almost borderline favela, like in Brazil. Although you could make your own way to the ground, it was encouraged that you took a pre-booked taxi there and back, so you didn't end up being used as ransom or worse.

The fans were fucking mental, there was a special section for tourists away from the loons, which was set in front of the commentators. I was lucky enough to be sitting close enough to the legendary commentator with the famous"goooooooaaaaaalllllllll- ah" strap line

I think the Juniors was playing Rosario that day, it wasn't' against River Plate or Argentinian Arsenal, sadly.

Mad day out :barscarf:

I don't know if this still happens, but there used to be an organised march every week, where the mothers and wives of the "disappeared " used to congregate in the main square in Buenos Aires to protest for the return of missing husbands and sons that were "removed " by certain government regimes and never returned.

To the best of my knowledge, Yes it still goes on ; both the marches and sadly the 'Disappearing'...

Same thing happened in Brazil, when workers at the Coca-Cola plant tried to organise a Trade Union... All 8 men disappeared on their way home from Work and were never seen again. that was 12 years ago. Mark Thomas the Comedian and Activist did a whole show about it... I haven't gone near a Coke (Coca-Cola since and never will)... Mind you I reckon if we really knew what all these Huge Companies and Conglomerates got up to we'd never eat/drink/wear/use anything...

Off topic I know but... :?

True Story...There was a woman (26yrs) on holiday in Rio .. met a bloke in a bar...went back to his hotel ... woke up with a Kidney missing and very inferior surgery Stitches... she nearly died.

The only place more dangerous to take your Holibobs is Barry Island!
