Is entertainment enough if we continue falling short? (21/7)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Is entertainment enough if we continue falling short? (21/7)

usual thread starter… well entertainment’s the consolation if we don’t win trophies – something to give the fans their money’s worth. But every fan wants their team to win trophies.

I think, really, the question is – what if the entertainment is not enough? Would failing to land trophies mean some fans would no longer be prepared to shell out the ticket prices the club are asking? My guess is that some would, some would not.

Arsenal fans are paying the price for the stadium move in more ways than one at the moment. I believe it is a price worth paying – short term pain for long term gain. But the board have been dishonest with the fans. That is what is creating so much ill feeling at the moment. And I will be taking them to task for this in the first issue of the season on sale at the Emirates Cup weekend.

Entertainment is not enough!!

And I wish everyone would stop blaming the board for all Arsenal's ills. You say the board have lied to us, let me attempt to correct you, it should be 'ARSENE AND THE BOARD HAVE LIED TO US!!!'

Do you really believe that those tossers on the board are the ones pulling the strings with - 1 year contracts for 30s and over, Letting go of all experienced players and buying purely kids, Wage structures that CAN be broken for some players and not others??

I believe the board more or less do as Arsene says or at least a good part of it! Do you really think Arsene whould really have stood for the board fucking up on not paying Ashley Cole or Flamini a pidley bit of extra money and run the risk of distablising the squad?, I think not and if they did, he would have been out the door by now. But yet again, Arsene gets too easy a ride in all of this, he has no pressure to win anything so long as he is balancing the books, its not surprising because he would never get that freedom at another club.

Arsene should get back to the job of coaching 100% and leave the process of actually running the club to those tossers (Peter H Wood) instead....on second thoughts perhaps not! :banghead:

Agreed, Put simply how long can we go on saying at the end of another trophy less campaign, "oh well at least the football was nice to watch!" We have to stop the rot and get that winning mentality back that brought us such success a few years back. Here´s hoping it´s this year!

I think we need both( alot to ask i hear you say) but what Arsenal need to learn is how to win ugly. We have scored by far the best goals the premiership has ever seen examples are bergkamp against newcastle henry against mau utd and van persie against charlton. But the scum like chelski and utd can score 3 yard tap ins and put 10 men behind the ball and win. We cant. I watched a game last year cant remember what one but the commentator said as arsenal where one nil up that he didnt feel that we would win one nil as we prone to being to attacking and are inability to hold on to a lead. About 5 mins later the other team scored. Then another comment from the commentator was about gallas having the ball on the falf way line attacking while we are 2-1 up going in to the last few mins. Trying to attack instead of running to a corner.

We dont have to win every game by 3 or 4 goals but when the game is tight and we are winning by one the last thing i want to see is our ctr back trying to beat players on the half way line.

We used to be able to manage both good football and success (1991; 1998; 2002 spring to mind), and Manchester United are currently proving that the two can go together.

Surely it's a false distinction? All we can do is play as well as we can (which happens to be very stylishly) and hope the results come. Lesser teams don't deliberately play with less style - and I include Chelsea in this - they just ain't got it. What's interesting is that Wenger's style very nearly reaped all the rewards, despite having a young, inexperienced team which had been written off by virtually everybody at the start of the season. I'm convinced that without the assault on Eduardo things would have been even closer, and who would be arguing then?

As for winning ugly, I don't mind us getting physical especially in the big games but if you're saying we could win the FA cup but only by playing the way we did in that last final but all the way through I'm not sure I'd fancy it. And if you're saying 'win the league but only by playing like chelsea have over the last few years' I'd say 'no, sod it'.

Having said that it is frustrating to see another close season go by without the boss addressing our defensive frailties. I think we would have won the league last year if we'd only been able to hang on to a few more of those leads.

Is the last message having a laugh - if we selected to play like Chelsea and win the league you would not take it!!!
Bollocks my friend - since the departure of Dein and the move to the white elephant we have gone backwards years both financially and on the pitch.
Wenger the genius.... nah wenger the CU*nt in my opinion. Too cushy, too comfortable, too stale, no pressure at all.

Lets have another under 20 years old that will be on his toes as soon as he is established and wants more money - last chance saloon as the boys are getting restless :banghead: :banghead:
