Throwing this question out to you guys….I’ve seen very little of Rodrygo and when I have seen highlights of RM games where he’s played I haven’t taken much notice, so how good is he?
Is he someone we should sign and especially for a big fee?
I’m fed up with buying players that the teams we’re supposed to be competing with are discarding, whether that’s Chelsea, City, or RM. I know that some players have come good, Salah a prime example, but that is the exception to the rule and our record of buying cast-offs is dire….all the crap from Chelsea, Jesus and Zinchenko from City and Odegaard from RM is hardly a roaring success is it?
So how many of you fellas would buy Rodrygo if he can’t make the RM side?
As an aside, I’ve always been a fan of Martinelli and still believe there’s a top player in there (I know loads of you don’t agree) and it’s very possible he’ll go if we buy Rodrygo. Still, please don’t just say yes to signing him because you think he’ll be better than Gabi, I want to know if he’s the quality we need.
Pires at Metz age 20 to 27 , ............162 games 43 goals (1 in 4 )
Pires at Arsenal age 27 to 33 ...........189 games 62 goals (1 in 3 )
How much would you pay for Piires today were he 24 .
Is Martinelli just coming into his prime , has Martinelli been playing in a team with players like Cole , Cesc , Vieira , Bergkamp etc.
Would Rodrygo or anyone else cover his full back and get back as often ,
I think it will be seen as a mistake if we let him go , just because a £70 plus million sale will look good on the balance sheet.

Martinelli is regressing. He looks worse than he did a couple of seasons ago. Is this playing in Arteta’s system or is it down to Martinelli? Who knows.

I too like martinelli, but my reason for letting him go is that I dont see things improving for him under the cone boy where he is always the easiest target - martinelli is a pacy direct attacker who plays in a team that plays slow measured football. Put an early ball in behind for him to run onto (like merino did in madrid) and he is direct and deadly - play slow laboured possession based ball, and by the time he gets it the defence is set and he has no left foot so has to keep checking back out. When saka was injured they played him on the right a few times and he was able to scorch the full back and put in some excellent crosses, but again that was stopped cos that is not what the cone boy wants. If martinelli had a Bergkamp playing in odegaard's position, he would see his runs early and have the ability to thread the ball through for his runs, but we have a guy playing in the 10 who is all about touches of the ball and passing stats, so we lack the ingenuity and guile to open defences for the likes of martinelli to shine, so for his own sake he probably should go
