Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Rodrygo on loan with obligation and Watkins for less than 50 and I’ll cheer up a bit.

Cheeky bid for Ollie Watkins

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I think so. He's a good impact player from the bench, experienced in this league and has notched more than 15 goals in each of the last 3 seasons, which given he was a rotation player last year is not bad at all. 75 goals over 5 seasons in just the PL. We just don't have that in our squad. He's a Gooner too. I'd get Watkins and have him push Gyokeres and be that man on the bench for the inevitable games where we are struggling to breakthrough

SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 11:54 amI'm trying to think why on earth he would sign Eze. I mean he has given his glowing tribute to Captain Invisible who was apparently the unanimous choice by "100 miles" and he has already got Saka as his main man on one side, and lashed out 52m for Madueke on the other. So, where does Eze fit? And if he does come what does that mean for Nwaneri and Dowman?
Don't get me wrong I like Eze, and I don't really want him signing for the vermin, but nor is that the reason to lash out 60m quid or whatever it takes on someone who will never be replacing Captain Invisible in the position where he could add most value
People tell me to "get real" cos there is no chance the cone boy will bring in eze to take ohdeargods place and I understand why people say that to me - for me it is a no brainer but realistically the cone boy will never drop the disappearing captain. However I am gonna come back at you with a similar thought process - this is a cunting manager who for years refused to buy a proper striker and you are suggesting that he buy two in the one transfer window ?? Not gonna happen buddy. I would take watkins to rotate with gyokeres but there is zero chance he will buy another striker much less one at watkins age and cost.
Realistically we are finished buying and our league ambitions will be gone by end september or october at latest

I think Gyokeres, as yet, has not become one of his favourite sons and he must (hopefully) realise that the paucity of options up front are what has cost him dearly. Fuck me, if he can't work that out then he really shouldn't be here at all.augie wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 12:25 pmSteveO 35 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 11:54 amI'm trying to think why on earth he would sign Eze. Odegaard on the other hand, for reasons unbeknown to you or I, is his darling child - almost like a son, and you can see how defensive he was when challenged about his suitability for the captaincy. Like me, you also talk a lot about the need to give Nwaneri more playing time......so I ask the question again. Who does Eze dislodge, and how does his signing help your dual ambition of seeing more game time for Nwaneri?

Havertz injury spares us from Arteta’s love affair with, and preference of, the useless git. Should force our hand to bring someone else in as well, so it’s a win all around.
Not that I’m celebrating his injury, just seeing it for the opportunity for something different (not Havertz), at last.

providing we bring in someone of quality it's a blessing in disguise.Arsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 12:50 pmHavertz injury spares us from Arteta’s love affair with, and preference of, the useless git. Should force our hand to bring someone else in as well, so it’s a win all around.

Much like the injury to Xhakatard a few seasons back it may be a blessing as he is utter shite..If we sign someone that's magic but even if as I suspect we don't (cos Arteta is a clueless stubborn arsepiece) it still saves him from being on the pitch as he is truly awful.Midz wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 1:17 pmproviding we bring in someone of quality it's a blessing in disguise.Arsenal Till I Die wrote: ↑Wed Aug 20, 2025 12:50 pmHavertz injury spares us from Arteta’s love affair with, and preference of, the useless git. I'd take Eze in a heartbeat, but if he even thinks about paying 50-odd million for the bloke who looked like Bambi on ice up front for Chelsea I swear.....

Steve O you asked me the question assuming you want my thoughts so I will answer what I would do if I was manager as opposed to what the clueless cone boy will do -
1. At this stage I would sell trossard - imo he has been one of the few value for money signings in the last few years, but at his age and with younger players coming through, I would take advantage of the interest in him and sell him to raise funds
2. With those funds I would buy eze and automatically install him as first choice ahead of the disappearing captain - Nwanieri would be his back up at 18 years of age and would get plenty of game time to aid his development
3. The disappearing captain would either be re-trained to be back up to rice as an 8 or would be sold, but reality is that there never seems to be any clubs linked with buying him so I'm not sure how much interest we would get for him.
4. Dowman would get domestic cup games for sure and would see some league action as sub in selected games (mostly home games)
Take odeargod out of the equation and I honestly dont think we would have too many options if we bought eze, so I dont foresee an issue with game time for our young academy products

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
We’re not just one injury to Gyokeres away from having Merino as striker for the rest of the season. Back to where we fucking started.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Have to say that giving trossard a new contract is a real head scratcher for me
I could be wrong of course, but to me it sends up a big flare saying that we have no more money left to spend, and like it or not that again puts the chav reject under the spotlight cos it was a deal that made no sense, A manager that spends 1 billion in six seasons can have no excuses if it goes tits up, so I dont want to hear any crap about havitz's injury and being unlucky etc etc
