As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
usual thread starter… Merson, Kenny Sansom and Charlie George to teach the current generation what Arsenal is all about. Right then, so that’s afternoons down the pub and the card school sorted then. Now what do you fancy in the 4.40 at Haydock Theo, my lad?
I haven’t got the energy to debate this. But hello to David Dein who will doubtless enjoy reading these sentiments between phoning up journalists and Myles Palmer to plant stories about unrest at the club.
I am generally of a fairly optimistic mindset about the way our team and club is run, but I am starting to have trouble totally disregarding some of the more pessimistic sentiments.
it may be a bit simplistic, but the in and out column of our transfer dealings is becoming slightly worrying.
In the main version of this article the writer mentions the lack of experience in the team. Lehmann spent most of last season on the bench and he was one of the 3 most experienced players at the club. So this is obviously not AW's main criteria for success.
I just dont feel that the likes of Nasri, Ramsay and Vela, are enough for the size of this club, considering the players who have left.
There is only a few weeks until the CL qualifier. We should have all our signings done by then rather getting players at the end of August when we are a few matches in.
Like all (at times) cynical gooners, I obviously hope I am way off the mark, that Diaby and Cesc hit 15 goals a piece, RVP and Ade slug it out for the golden boot, and Theo walks off with young player ofthe year, and we are left saying "Arsene knows"! (is it to much to ask that spuds get relegated)
This latest article is crap even by some low life journalistic standards. The writer has clearly fallen for every piece of dross written about the Club all summer long. Think for yourself - don't just mindlessly follow the party line of some Scum journalist with a knife to stick in our backs
Ridicule "The Invincibles" you're not a Spud fan are you? upset at losing your dear Robbie. Cesc has just told Real Madrid to "take a hike" that is not the actions of a player playing for a "feeder club" We all know what is needed player wise but what we do not need is a bitter and twisted DD back, for the last time what do you think is happening in the transfer market? I'll tell you, panic stricken managers swapping one average player for another below average player for stupid sums of money.
It is not the Arsenal way and it is not Arsene Wenger's way.
Really bad piece. I would rather be a UEFA cup team than have Dein, because with Dein comes Usmanov which would be a total disaster. The board have run out of ideas? If you want a "fresh thinking" board go and support chelsea. Our board are Arsenal through and through and to lose them would be a disaster.
Can't believe he wants Joey Barton?!!?!?! How can you justify having a criminal at the club??? But then he wants DD back aswell. Adams as manager?!? You need sectioning mate. It's time people like this get some perspective, who would you have supported through the 70s and 80s?
And before you drift into a deep and lasting depression, we weren't actually out of the title race last season until the last month of the season. So snap out of it.
I don't like to ridicule anyone who has the courage and motivation to publish their views in a lead article as it takes commitment and courage of your convictions - but Joey Barton??? Even if he wasn't a convicted criminal what would he add to Arsenal? A few more red cards?
I watched the youngsters again tonight - Vela, Wilshire, Nasri, Walcott - it's getting better and better and I don't think we're going to repeat the mistakes of last season. I'm looking forward to some goalfests (for want of a better word). We have a fascinating and exciting squad - if only Adebayor could work out how the offside law works...
Yes, it was truly Gooner's lowest moment. But, the Gooner tends to be pretty pessimistic about the future of Arsenal. Personally, I feel a lot more confident than I did before last season. We have shown there is quality throughout our young team, and we have many players who could well emerge during the next season as Adebayor, Fabregas and Clichy all did last season. Who knows, Diaby could be fantastic in the middle?
Having said this, I do worry that our midfield is a bit lightweight without Flamini; the energy of Vieira easily balanced the play of Gilberto or Petit before him. Cesc, on the other hand, requires shielding and a non-stop powerhouse. Also, I worry that, fundamentally, Toure and Gallas are just too similar. If only Senderos would stop his stupid mistakes that cost in big games (though as I am reminded, Tony Adams made similar blunders early in his career).
Otherwise, I think we are in excellent shape; we lost out last season by 3 small points, our team developed hugely, we have amazing talent coming through. Don't forget that in 2003, when we let the Prem slip from our grasp after dominating all season, we came back with added drive and impetus, and were unbeatable.
And finally, when has Wenger ever really let us down? Surely he knows far more than we do about the state of the squad, without ridiculous calls for Joey Barton or Gareth Barry.
Everybody, relax. At least until the season starts...
