What is Arsene Wenger Doing?

Post by michael jones »

What is the boss doing? First he sells Henry, then he sells Freddie to West Ham. Who is next?!

Who will he buy next? Nobody, just youngsters who will only play in the youth/reserve teams. Why doesn't he just go?

My season thoughts are:
1) Out of Champions League
2) Out of both cups
3) The unthinkable - relegated
4) suker enker arrives (T.S - I couldn't decipher what this meant)

l have supported Arsenal since 1969. The first word l said was "Arsenal".

I've supported them through the painfull 70s, 80s, and 90s up to now.
Through thick and thin.
Through the ups and downs.
Come on Arsene, sort it out.

From a not too happy Arsenal fan.

(T.S - sorry for correcting so much of this, Michael. I try not to most of the time, but I really had a hard time reading this, so I thought other forum goers might benefit from me editing your post a little. The gist of it remains the same, though.)

Hey Michael, like you lots of other folks are concerned ... but the transfer season is not over yet ... so, dont be too down in the dumps ..

H/ever, even if no new purchases are made, I do think we have enough to have a good season with at least a trophy .. then again, I am an optimist

To be honest I think Ljunberg not to big a loss yes he was a legend at the club but there's no point keeping a ledgend just because he is a ledgend, it should be about how he plays and he wasn't doing it for me. Henry he might be a big loss but also his career might just pity out, I think we might have got two more seasons out of him but he will probally make the full 4 at barca because the league's slower.

I dont think its quite as bad as you say Michael, i think we need a couple more signings but i would never accuse Arsene of trying to ruin us. Another thing who is Denis Berchamp??????????? :D

Michael - I can't believe you seriously think that selling Freddie is evidence that Arsene is trying to "ruin us....". Do you think that Freddie would have even made the bench if we had a fully fit squad next season? I don't. And £70k per week for a reserve makes no sense, and isn't fair on a player who has given us so much in the past. As the season draws near, I was getting afraid that Freddie would end up staying!

Im with you on this one MK Gould. I don't think Arsene is trying to ruin us, i believe he will sign a new contract and build a great squad for the future, one that will maybe rival 98, 02 and 04 squads, i said that the future is bright altho we don't have a mega billionaire to fund us money we are still there or there abouts.
I trust Arsene and have no reason not to, the season will be a good one also i think we might spring a few suprises.

Also on freddie going it seems like it was he doing and wanted to leave so he could play more 1st team football, good luck freddie we all love you.

In the first place it does not make sense for any manager to purposely "ruin" a club.

Who would sign a manager and risk him halfing the worth of a club or whatever once they had finished. it would be professional suicide.

in any case AW will be here for sometime as he wants to see this crop of players mature into the first team, he has invested many years and I doubt would walk away from this.

I don't think he would go to spain were like AW does with +30s they seem only to give one year contracts even if you win leuges / cups.

The truth is as stated before, Freddy can no longer beat players to a loose ball or go past them. Henry wanted to go, even if AW signed new deal, he would have found another excuse. He wanted his last big transfer to go to spain and get la liga title and try to win CL.

even the lupoli and the younger french striker wanted to move because they can not make the first 11.

So he has not choose to sell any first team players.

Don't want to give Michael too hard a time, but I think he is looking at the club's problems through a magnifying glass and lost all perspective. AW trying to ruin the club? Talk sense.

Having said that, it's a bit worrying when the likes of West Ham can score points off our perceived lack of ambition. I am torn between bouts of optimism for our potential and waves of concern for our over reliance on youth.

I am a Gooner through and through. This club has given me true emotion. More ups than downs. BUT...

When talking about Arsenal, I am beginning to feel like I did when posing for my wedding photos. You know that feeling when you are forcing a smile on your face for so long you get face ache and become confused about exactly how you are feeling?

In truth, Alistair Campbell could not spin this into a good summer for us. We have lost a true legend, and we can come out with excuses that it will enable the kids to express themselves, he is not the player he was etc. Do we honestly believe those excuses? I have used them myself, like a mantra.

Babel, Torres, Nani, Malouda, Hargreaves, Tevez, Anderson, I have called them all shit recently. Deep down I know its not true.

The unbeaten squad of what only seems yesterday has been dismantled far too quickly. It should have been added to and nurtured but instead we have ripped it out and re-seeded.

I hope I'm talking bollocks. As I type I am forcing the smile back on my face... feel like a stepford wife... smile is back in place now. We were right to get rid of Henry, the youngsters can express themselves. Babel and co are shit.

Your spot on as far as I am concerned Chin!

I have virtually echoed your thoughts in another post!

Its been a shit summer! We can tell ourselves all we like Hargreaves and Malouda will be shit! That Eboue will have discivered the ability to stand up and cross a ball and hence become a great wide midfielder. That Eduardo will get 20 goals in his first season! It just aint gonna happen!

The simple summary for me is-

We wanted to see the gap close! Somehow we let it get wider!
