What is Arsene Wenger Doing?

I think we still have a very strong squad capable of winning the league. Some might laugh, however I believe last year, the effect and timing of injuries just magnified a shortfall. With the younger players more experienced, and the older players being "moved on", I think the squad will be more focussed and the teamwork will be even stronger. Have some faith in the boss...he's no mug. Maybe we need a few signings, but only squad players if we're being realistic. After all, if we are to buy a player who will definitely get a game every week, how much will that cost. How much will a forward cost to get in the team ahead of RVP/Eddie/Ade etc. Same applies for midfielders. I just think that if you have too many "Charlies" in a team, it can cause unrest. I believe Wenger will sign two £6-8m players purely to beef up the SQUAD. Some of you on the forum are so fickle...you cannot win all the time

Your right about last year when we had a bad few weeks everything went wrong all at once if you look back to last season i remember people saying that we was playing the best football in the league, this was without Henry, RvP, gallas and freddie.Leprechaun_9 wrote:I think we still have a very strong squad capable of winning the league. A shortfall is still a shortfall magnified or not! A good squad is there specifically to cover for situations! As Arsenal FC should we have a shortfall? I think fucking not
I still am trying to get my head around people believing Eduardo has just landed from the planet Goalmachine and a new saviour is here! If he makes it at all in this standard of football is open to debate and unproven and it certainly wont happen in his first season! Ade is hardly prolific now is he but all of a sudden people are making out Henry wouldnt have got a game this year even if he had stayed! Who are you trying to kid?
Do you think when we had the likes of Bobby Dennis Thierry and Fred at his best teamwork wasnt important? Of course it was and they knew it! Remember the whole team bowing to Bobby? That side had class talent strength focus and unity!
Where does the squad need beefing up really! Another left back? No! A central midfielder? We have more than enough ta! What we need is an out and out proven goalscorer whose mere prescence scares this shit out of the opposition back four! John Terry, who do you prefer to play against? Thierry Henry of Emmanuel Adebayor? What do you think?
Super super class is not a right back whose in the French squad and its not a centre forward from the Croatian League! Maybe Fabianski is that shit hot I dont know!
All I do know is we aint winning no bloody league!

I have no problem with both players being sold (although I will miss freddie) but when departed players like the 2 of these make comments about the clubs ambitions or lack thereof it certainly stings me and flies in the face of what edelman said about the great morale at the club. All we have done over the last few years is diluted the quality of the team & diluted the size of our squad which is amazing considering how everybody knows that we were f*cked last season cos our squad wasn't big enough. I honestly believe we need a minimum of 3 or 4 players to get our squad to an acceptable size and being realistic can anyone see us signing anymore than 1 or 2 more players ?
Anybody who blames arsene for this mess (or grimandi for that matter) obviously doesn't have a clue. For the last few years we have been promised top quality signings and instead we have been making our purchases at Toys R Us and this has had a adverse effect on the players and us fans. While I dont agree with the Mike Jones statement about us getting relegated (has anyone checked to see if he is an enemy spy sent from an inferior club to drive us all into a mad frenzy ?) I do believe that we are heading for a big fall - one that even the genius of wenger will not be able to halt

What a pessimist may I say. I think you should stick to Championship Manager football simulation and buy Raul and Ronaldinho to play up front for Arsenal.....but all joking aside, the nature of the structure of Arsenal FC is that of prudent financial management and I believe this will see our Club prosper long term, as opposed to Liverpool/Man U who are one massive inertia ball of debt. I would say to all you fans that are bemused that you have to keep the faith and give your support to the Club. Its no good moaning about not having perfection...

Swap pessimist for realist Leprechaun myold son and your on the right track!
If you want to cling to bollocks like Arsene will focus more on teamwork then fine! Its obvious to me the only level of football you have been involved in is a computer game coming out with shite like that!
And if your to comment on me and advise me what I should do may I politely ask you to not have two seperate conflicting opinions in two different posts!

Gus you truely are a legend. I agree with what you are saying and you (and the rest of us) have every reason to be disillusioned at the direction this club is going. The question i would like to ask leprechaun and every other fool that spouts crap about the sound financial planning that the club is based on is "does the planning allow for the loss of £30m-£40m of champs league revenue per season that we will lose out on if we fail to qualify ?"

You should really read my posts over again "my old son". I can assure you that I have played football at the top level when I was a younger but had trouble with injuries and gave it up. (not that this even matters!). You are clearly on the offensive because someone disagrees with your opinion. Get over it!

Why thank you Augie!
Its nice to find someone else who has their eyes open!
I am not on the offensive at all but all this talk of winning leagues masked with the optimism of an eight year old is not right!
If we are to argue lets argue on solid facts and judgement! Not the two £6-8million players needed to boost the squad you cant even name!

Dont get me wrong folks..I do see your point of view...the two £6-8m players I would hope for are obviously not named as this was an example of the area of the market Wenger is looking at imo. In relation to other clubs spending massive money e.g.Liverpool/Torres. This money is being invested by Liverpool but inevitably the club inherit the debt. My understanding is that Liverpool are paying their owners a dividend of millons every year for this investment. These lads are not putting money in for the laugh. Arsenal had, from what I read, a contingency plan to be able to survive and pay loans without champs league revenue etc for a few years. This I would imagine would not be the case with Liverpool/ Man U if they failed to qualify. The lads would up sticks and this debt would be left with the Club
